My Sweetie is in FCI Beckley...The actual population fluxuates in the mid 1700's. It's WAY over crowded.... Doesn't include the camp population.

Actually, I don't mean to be pickey here, but the name of the women's institution is LAKIN Correctional Center - Not Larkin!!! It houses all security levels. It was once the Lakin State Hospital for the mentally ill. I have been there to see it.

Also, there are NEW facilites opening up now for Juveniles. There is a brand new one to open at the end of October at Mt. Hope, WV in Fayette Co. I have a job interview there on Tuesday!

The mailing address for Huttonsville Correctional Center is PO Box 1, Huttonsville, WV 26273 Phone number is: 304-335-2291 My husband is currently being housed there, and it's really not a 'supermax"... there is only ONE supermax in WV, and that is the SUPERMAX unit they have at Mount Olive. The behavioral Unit you referr to is like a "lockup". There it might be 1:3 ratio, but in the rest of the prison I don't think it is. My husband is on a dorm, and he seldom ever sees a staff person there.

It is a max unit, inside the Lockup area called Quilliams TWO. I used to work there. I've seen the supermax. The inmates in there are staff only inmates. When they are out, there can be NO ONE else around. If they are taken down the hall or go to medical, they clear the halls of EVERYONE except those escorting them. Northern is a maximum security but not truly a 'supermax'. They are on lockdown 22 1/2 hours a day. One hour for recreation and half an hour to come out for showers. Other than that they are on lockup

The phone number for Mount Olive Correctional Complex is: 304-442-7213 if anyone needs to call for something.

The Beckley Correctional Center is primarily for DUI's. Third offence DUI's I should say.

There is a new one. McDowell County Correctional Center. It is in Welch WV, but I don't know any particulars about it.

My friend just got out of Pruntytown... it will soon no longer be co-ed. They are sending all the women to Lakin Correctional Center. Don't know when they will be finished with that move.

Anyway, I've been in quite a few of these prisons when I worked there, so if I can be of anymore help, please let me know.
Bonnie

Since the HWH is a Federal facility make sure you post your questions in the Federal Forum also. They have a lot more traffic there and you just might get your info quicker.

Good luck!

Default Beckley

My baby will be moving there from Manchester any day now. It was hard enough getting use to the craziness there and its like here we go again starting over. Even tho he is going to the drug program I sort of got comfortable with Manchester (3 years) I knew what to expect from most of the guards.
Is there anything that you can tell me about Beckley that will help my first visit go smooth. . . he's not even there yet but anticipation is a mutha. Also is there anything you can tell me about the drug progam. Is the place hard to find I will be driving from Dayton, anything you can tell me will be more than what i know right now.

Thanks!!

The MINT program in WV is contracted by the BOP through the Greenbrier Birthing Center in Hillsboro, West Virginia for female federal inmates who might otherwise be housed at FCI Alderson in Alderson, West Virginia. Denmar, which is in Hillsboro, is a male, state facility.

Pruntytown is no longer a co-gender facility. That changed not too long after Lakin opened. It is now houses all men.
