The e-collars will make them not recognize each other and they probably smell odd to each other too.
I would not take the e-collars off but just keep them in seperate rooms.

Give it at least 6 days for the cones and keep them apart for another 2 to 3 days after the cones come off. That will allow them to get back into their grooming habits so they will then smell right to each other.
A full ten days with the cones seems excessive to me but a week to ten days total of solo recovery seems reasonable- spaying is routine but it's also pretty major surgery, so I think it's best to proceed with caution.

When I had my cats spayed/neutered respectively, they did not have cones. The first day they were both home, they were still "stoned" from the anesthetic and pain medication. On the second day, I did not give them pain reliever and they got back together and healed nicely on their own. They did not have major incisions on either of them and quite frankly, my vet never said anything about keeping them separated.

Neither one of them have any reconizable scars and as you can tell with the picture I have posted, they are still each others best buddies.

I, myself, would not discourage the kitties from licking each other. Their tongue actually works as a cleansing agent. With that being said, at one point my female was attacked by a pretty good size dog in my house. My husband and I got the dog off of her. She did not require stitches but she did have four puncture wounds and one fracture in her right foreleg that nothing could be done about.

To make a long story short, I gave her seven days of antibiotics. At one point one of the punctures had swollen and the vet thought we might have to do surgery. I went ahead and took her home and was going to discuss it that night with my husband. Before the end of my night, my male cat started acting strangely and actually held my female down as he furiously licked the infected puncture. The next morning, the swelling had reduced. The vet said to see what happened. Over the week, my male would forcibly hold her down and clean her wound, she is now healed. In the picture posted above, the black cat is my male and tabby is my female. They take care of each other and one thing I have learned from them is to trust nature to take it's course. Blackie's tongue did more towards healing luckie than the antibiotics did.

She is marking her territory. Usually that is a male thing and I have not had a problem with either one of my kitties since I have had them fixed, my male used to do it but between the neuter and the use of one spray bottle filled with water, that was nipped in the bud. It makes me wonder if perhaps you have another kittie around or if possible, it's a new home that had been marked by a previous occupants pet.

Glad to see your kitties are healing well. Over here we don't put lampshades on kitties for spaying/neutering..................the other mogs would tease them something rotten!!
