If convicted of manslaughter, still eligible for Work Release Program?
Hi,
My husband is currently serving a 15 year determinate sentence for manslaughter and a drug possession charge that ran concurrently at Eastern. He has 2 1/2 years left of his sentence & was told by a counselor that he may be eligible for work release when he hits the 2 year mark this summer or after completing a casac program. He reminded her he was also convicted of manslaughter & she said that its not murder & doesn't make him ineligible for work release program.
Is this true? I thought violent crimes weren't eligible for work release. I don't want to get our hopes up with wrong information.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Upon application (casat) or work release), his counselor will submit a violent felony override, (VFO). Albany Central ofc will look at his crime and determine if he can be screened. If so, he will go through the same process as everyone else, points, history, discipline...no guarantees, just a screening.
Good luck.!

Thanks so much for that information. At least it's something to pray on. I've been doing this for 10 years now and we have a 6 year old son. It would be great if he could see his dad everyday!
