Default Court appointed attorney fees

My brother has a court appointed attorney on record; however, he has never contacted her and she has never done any legal work on his behalf. Does she automatically receive compensation or does she only get paid if she actively represents him in a legal issue?

Much of the pay structure is driven by which of the 254 counties one is in...some just assign a flat fee while others have the attorneys submit time sheets.

Your reference to 'on record' suggests that there was an appointment but that private counsel was later engaged. In such a case, the appointed attorney would submit their time for whatever was expended in a case and then they are done...

Thanks for the reply. He was convicted in Collin county & her name showed up on his records & remains there since 2008 although she has never acted on his behalf. He did hire personal counsel so I am not sure when the court-appointed attorney was assigned.
