Default Scared sober programs?

I am kinda new on here. I have had addiction issues....long story short, I was told by an ex con that the Indiana Dept. of Corrections has a "scared sober" program. Theoretically, people with drug / alcohol problems are put in prison for a week or 10 days ( more or less voluntarily) in an effort to scare them like the Scared Straight programs do for juvenile offenders. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this. I am very dubious.
Thanks,
Wharfrat

Haven't heard of it, but I'd be dubious. Things like that last for a brief while, but don't tend to be a permanent solution. You sound like you're looking for a quick, easy way out. Quick fixes aren't usually very sturdy or long-lasting.

I don't know if the Indiana Dept of Corrections has that program or not, but anything is possible. The program does exist. I supposed a Google Search might turn up that information.

I’d be surprised if there is something like that. The legal liability and insurance ramifications of putting unsentenced, uncharged people into jail or prison on a “voluntary” (?) basis would be horrendous. If one of those people sustained any kind of injury, there’d be hell to pay.

Besides---I think if somebody went in for 7 or 10 days knowing they’d be out in 7 or 10 days, not much of a point would really be made by the experience and I really doubt any serious and lasting personality or behavioral changes would result. However much of a dump any given jail or prison might be, 7 or 10 days just plain isn’t scary.

If you have serious substance abuse issues, a 4-week rehab would probably be a more appropriate exercise for you. Those things are conducted by staff that are hopefully trained and in facilities that are hopefully designed to handle people who have serious alcohol and substance issues. Jails and prisons aren’t designed that way and typical jail/prison staff don’t have that kind of training.

I never heard of such a thing but I doubt anyone or anything could have scared me sober because I don't give a sh*t when I'm practicing in my addiction...but it would have been a good excuse to drink more.
