My friend just got transferred to ccwf from vsp. Any ideas how I can find out her housing info so I can send her mail, other than waiting for her to write me?

I do not think there is anyway other then waiting for a letter or phone call from her. From what I understand her WE number is the most important thing. I do know post cards seem to get thru fast , less securty to deal with. I would send a post card to her even with just her WE number on it...cant hurt right ?

Default sending stuff

Where do I find a list of what I can send and what I can't send in the way of blank post cards and blank greeting cards to my girl friend in CCWF?

If you are asking about the CA women's prison, here's a link to the rules & regulations for CA DOC. Mail starts on page 64.

So I read in another post that sending postcards was a way to get mail through quicker but my GF has yet to get my postcards. Someone said it might be due to me not putting my address on them. I sent her postcards when she was in county and they never sent them back for that, but I can believe that CCWF would. Also if I sent her mail and it somehow didn't comply with their guidelines will she get a notice that they are sending her mail back? Do they send mail back or just throw it away? I'm lost here send been in there for over a month and she's only gotten one of my letters that I know of. Any help on what I can do is appreciated.

if you didnt include the return address on the post card they wont be able to send it back. If its a letter, they will send it back if you put a return addy on it.
Mail is awfully slow (at least at the prisons my hub was at)
as to if they notify her of a rejected piece of mail? I dont think they tell them. They just return it. (at least my hubby never told me he got a notice)

Keep writing. She will get your letters eventually. (unless they return it)

Default Censorship?

Hi gang,

It may be folly to ask this, but has anyone had mail kicked back from CCWF? I've read the rules on what not to send, but I wonder if the guards have their own unwritten, ever-changing rules.

I often send my pen pal articles and info on the hunger strike, realignment, LWOP and other political issues covering CDCR and prisoner rights nationwide. Technically they don't violate the rules as stated on the web site, but I wonder...

Does anyone know if the guards round file letters and don't do the rejection paperwork? I'm thinking of setting up a serial # system on our letters, each letter and the pages within would be sequentially labeled.

Maybe I'm just paranoid. Currently it appears that the mail takes at least 11 calendar days to clear the censor. Sometimes less, or more. I suppose it's the same everywhere...

Any insights appreciated.

Looks the holiday mail delay is upon CCWF. Right now it appears the delay is four weeks.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks Cyberman. Do you know when the delay shrinks to the normally pathetic 2-3 weeks? End of January?

it was up to six weeks a while back, but now it's around 10-14 days.
not too bad, although currently i'm irritated because they sent my letter BACK to me claiming the return address was incomplete, and it was PERFECT. It took six weeks for it to get back to me...

I just spoke with my Pen Pal last week. She got a Christmas card postmarked 12/4 last week. She says the delay is all over the map. Seems they are picking mail from whatever pile they feel like. I think 10-14 days is way too optimistic.

believe me optimism and prison mail, don't mix.
the 10-14 days was not an estimate, the last three, were received within 10-14 days.

CCWF for sending items like "stamps" "envelopes" and the like. Why do I get some information of entries stating things like: PAPER typing (not cotton), note book (of course without metal or spiral), ENVELOPES up to 40 and the same for STAMPS up to 40. Some entries say PAPER and some say NOT paper. What is the deal??? Also packages (large envelopes) can be up to 11 ounces!!!! Do I need to call the MAIL ROOM for the correct information???? Why such a conflict on such a crucial matter???

just in case it's not clear, I found something out the hard way, and feel I should share it, in case i'm not the only one.
previously I had just sent letters like this
jane doe
WA9999
po box 1508
chowchilla ca 93610
I was always pissed because it generally took at least 10 to 50 days to get to her. granted it was during the holiday season so I do know it's slow naturally.
but after I started adding the exact room number and bed number it went much faster. It is a possible coincidence, but I think it was my mistake for not having the complete address, so, just to let you guys know
add the number too
it'd be in this format
jane doe #wa####
CCWF- ###-##+bed number.
po box 1508
chowchilla ca 93610
Maybe i'm a jackass, but it made it much faster.
I don't know, this is all new to me...

Yes if you put her housing address on there, it will get routed faster and correctly. If you dont put it on there, it will still get to her but slower because the address has to be looked up.
First set of numbers is the building number. Second set is the room number, and then third set is the bed.

Default stamps

Hi there, yes I believe we can send stamps and other items. My daughter sent me a copy of the mail rules and it says you can send the following:

10 blank greeting cards
40 stamps
40 white envelopes
10 photos
up to 4 writing tablets (no wire) white or yellow
25-50 sheets of white or colored paper
20 postcards
1 calendar 9x12" max

My daughter just arrived and I sent her a little care package with most the items above, its been 3 weeks and am not sure if she's received yet. I hear postcards get thru faster. Hope this helps!
