I suppose it depends on the prison. My husband is in Texas and he is allowed to have a calendar. I think the only restriction on calendars down there is that it cannot be bound with wire or staples.

I don't know if this is statewide or what, varies prison to prison. The jail didn't have a problem with the printed calendars, me and the kids would do one each month then write all the little important dates (drs, school functions, countdown month, visit you know.) Then he got transferred, they went through fine for tow months them bam they were returned unapproved personal property, so I sent a blank one, thinking that the date book type look had something to do with it, sent back, so I sent a hand drawn one lol (I can be determined) it was sent back, this was in receiving. I've not tried one at his new place, but have had so many problems with the mail I"m trying to be under the radar for a while there lol.

Its just another stupid rule that I would love to have explained, as to why they can't have a sheet of paper with the month and days of the month on it

I printed the Yankee's schedule, looks like a calendar, no problem here in NY. I also printed out 2010 on my computer and sent them loose, also not a problem.

That is not true. I went to wal mart and bought him a small pocket one for him to put away and also made him a picture one from wlagreens with 12 pictures of myself. I guess it all depends on the prison.

It depends on the facility and the state. The facility Ray is in they can't have regular calenders, but I can make him calenders. I have a program on my computer that will print out one month at a time on a 8 X 10 piece of paper. I put notes on special days, put (computer) pictures at the top and note birthdays he needs to remember.

It definitely depends on the facility and state.

I have no problem buying a calander for my man at the end of each year for the next one. He is in California (SQ).

My fella isn't allowed calenders, he is in Canada. Im not sure if it is because that some calendars have those little metal spirally spine wires (so therefore they bann ALL calendars) or whether they just don't want them to count down the days left...?

FL allows calendars but that have to be sent from an outside vendor, you can't mail it yourself. And no spiral binding is allowed. There is also a size limitation. I believe it's 12 x 12.

It's definitely according to each institution. Really squirelly. I printed one out from the internet and it got rejected. Where he's at, they're expected to buy them from the canteen and the prices are ridiculous.
