Free van service to CT prisons and mentoring programs for children of prisoners
I would to tell you all about services that our agency provides to offenders and their families. Our agency is Families In Crisis. It was founded to stabilize the family in crisis and to provide meaningful opportunities for change. We focus on the dynamics of the family unit and the significant role that family relationships play to help offenders rebuild their lives. Our services are an important addition to the criminal justice system's own efforts to reduce crime and to prepare offenders to be productive members of society.
We offer free van services from Hartford, New Haven and Waterbury to the following correctional institutions: York CI J.B. Gates Carl Robinson Cheshire CI Enfield CI Northern CI Osborn CI Webster CI Willard/Cybulski Manson Youth
Our agency also has mentoring programs for children of incarcerated parents. In Greater Waterbury, New Britain, New Haven and Bridgeport we offer a program for children with a mother incarcerated. In Greater Hartford we offer a program for children with either a mother or father incarcerated.
We also provide counseling services for any offender or family member.
If you would like more information on any of our services, please call (203) 573-8656 or (860) 236-3593.
You can email me at sepanski@familiesincrisis.org for more info.
God Bless and Good Luck

Hi, I don't know anything about van or bus service, but I am in NY and trying to connect with someone from NY with a family member in Conn. I'm not in the city, I'm about 60 min north of the city. Was your guy ever in a NY facility?
I am not aware of any bus services. I am sorry. I know that there is an Amtrak train that can get you within a few miles of the MacDougall-Walker facility. That's about all I am aware of. I would think though, you could take a Metro-North into New Haven and possibly get a bus to Hartford. You still would have a ways to go from there, though.

I have been looking online and can't find any. I also would recommend you contact Families in Crisis to see if their van goes to Brooklyn CI but according to the list someone else provided above, it does not. But their schedule may have changed, and if not, maybe they would have more information on available public transportation for the area. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful! But you have demonstrated a serious issue; I just posted on CT DOT's TransformCT the need for public transportation to add stops at correctional facilities during visiting hours.
This link has some information about services for transportation to CT prisons. Also, I know inside the prisons, there is information about transportations services.
