Unhappy Possibly headed to Carswell

Hello. I am going to self-surrender between mid-August and October (that's all I know for now). They are doing a medical evaluation before they decide my date and location. I have an autoimmune condition that is still in minor flair up but is mostly controlled through enbryl (2x per week injection) and several oral daily and weekly medications. I am able to work with minor accommodations. I am a graduate student- so anything teaching or library (no heavy lifting). Would this automatically put me in Carswell??? It is far from my home and family. It also seems to have far less freedom that other prison camps. Is that true? Does anyone have a similar situation that they can help compare me to? I was hoping to go to Alderson because it is closer to my home. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm keeping a blog about all my preparing to self surrender at dragonflyhazel.blogspot.com. Thank you!!!!

My gf is from Ohio and they sent her to Carswell for just 5 months. She got notice 9 days after her sentence and will check in on the 18th of this month. She has a bad immune system and takes remicade infusions every 6 weeks. They do not care where you live, Carswell is the only medical center for women in the U.S.A.

Did they put her in the medical center or the camp and she can get the infusions at the medical center?

Okay, it is official. Due to my autoimmune condition. FMC Carswell. 8/19. Can people tell me about the living quarters? Do they separate those that are qualified for minimum from higher level offenders? Etc.

No. The general population has all kinds--even violent offenders. The death row couple of ones are separate.

What are the rooms like? Bunk beds even though we have medical conditions? How many in a room? What is the bathroom situation?

How long doe it take to be able to call home? My LO was told she can call home that day is that something special? Is that a courtesy call the prison pays for?

I heard that it could be up to a week to be able to call home. Make sure money is deposited into the commissary ASAP.

I hope they do Big Mike. However, given her injections, she and I are probably both in the hospital. I surrender a month after her, so by then she will be used to it more or less. 5 months is tough, especially with the holidays, but I understand we can keep ourselves busy if we choose. If the letter doesn't say the camp, then it is the hospital. She can call just to be certain. Enjoy the next several days and tell her to stay strong and a friend will be there in a month.

It says in the handbook they have 28 day to figure out where you are going. She has the infusions every 6 weeks but takes a lot of pain meds. Her name is Lori she is 5'10 240lbs and is white if you wanna look for her? How long are you in for? I Ss on the 30th of this month myself for 30 months.

Good luck to her and to you! I hope the time moves quickly and you are able to find a way to be together again. I am in for 10 months. I am Caucasian and 5' tall. Hard to miss me- lol.
