This is life.
I donít care how busy you are in your degree program, thereís someone out there support you, keeping the family together, so that you, the incarcerated loved one, can dedicate all your time to your goals.
Itís thoughtless to do otherwise.
OP says he calls once a week. How much handholding do you need?

Want to support him in his academics, ask him about his reading list and pick a few books on that reading list to talk with him about. If he is learning Tagalog, learn Tagalog with him. If he is writing a 100 page thesis that he has to defend, then be up on where he is struggling.

But, hey, dropping out of that program so that he can call constantly is just such a good idea.

No actually that’s not what she said, but nevertheless my perspective come from a different point of view. In the real world we all have to find a balance.

I still believe family serves time with them, and deserve more than “maybe” once a week call.
If he was a full time college student in the outside world I would expect no less.
Accountability and responsibility isn’t a burden, and if they can do it for school, they can do it for family.
5minutes of thinking about another is not too much.
But this is me who talks to family members daily and they worry when they don’t hear from LO, and I tell them he’s fine I just saw him in the yard working out.

Not at present. I know a few people who have been in the program and a few professors.

Yes, he's enrolled in the Northwestern Prison Education Program. Coursework is a lot but he loves it and I'm happy for him.

my prison offers classes through the local community college. It's a sporadic recent program and I don't think we have had anyone graduate. If they did and I don't think anyone is close to graduating it would be with a AA in general studies. But that is for the "in person" classes taught in the education dept with outside professors. We have some that do distance learning.

Post Ny college program

+** This post is for NY **+ Is your husband in a college program? BPI? Or another program? How are they getting their work? How are they completing the work? Are they required to mail it in? Will they be able to graduate on time? How does your LO manage class and make time for you? Especially in these hard times (coronavirus).

They are on hiatus as professors are loathe to travel with BPI and similar programs.
