Question Can we get the same answer twice?

My husbands counselor at John Lilley told him that he was going to recommend my husband for the Pre Release program. I have looked up on every site I can think of and still no answer to what the Oklahoma pre release program is all about? My husband said he has asked several inmates and they all say something different. He cant ask his counselor until he calls him back into the office and we dont want to wait that long to see what the program intails ........needless to say we are kinda excited. Does anyone know??? Thanks so much

Sorry I don't have the answer about per parole But I can answer the other question No you can't get the same answer twice because DOC is a dumb butt! No one knows what the other person is doing! You might try and call the parole inveg. at the prison and ask him what the program is Good Luck
And if you find out would ya please post it so we all would know?

Sorry, but I'm not sure either. I've been trying to look info up on this for a while now, and the only thing I can come up with is that it will be like Community Corrections or a Halfway House type thing. All of the Community Corrections articles I found talked about their mission statements of pre-release training for reintegration into society.

Whatever it turns out to be, it sounds like a good thing so Congrats!!

Thought of this today maybe if you call pardon and parole and ask to speak to Gen. counsel, His name is Carey nice guy and I bet he can help! But of course REMEMBER it's another person SO you may get a new answer. Hugs
I'm thinking it has to do with classes and stuff for him and you or family,as freckledgirl said.

Sounds like something good, I would be excited to. Let us know what you find out. How did your husband get recommended? Was it something that his counselor/case manager just decided on his own? If that's the case sounds like he must have a good one. Cause I don't think there are to many of them out there that would actually do something to help them along.

The Pre release program is one that passed last year and is just getting off the ground so DOC may not even be sure exactly what it is all about. But basically what it is supposed to be is a counsoling and such program that starts 6 months or so before release to help them get adjusted to the ideal of getting out and to help them prepare for the outside world. Now if it will work is anyones quess but apparently DOC was getting alot of slack because OK was so far behind on preparing inmates for the outside world and our high residivism rate. I will look and see if I can find what I posted back when the law was passed to see if it helps you any.

Sarah BEEN THERE DONE THAT!!

HA HA found it!! here is the thread where we discussed the reentry program when it was first passed last year. I hope this may help you some. There is a copy of the whole bill and some other info in the responses posted there.

I was wondering if that was the same thing! We talked again about that a few months back and I think the consensus was that the program had to be paid by outside money and at this time it had no funding???

It also seemed to work out that this was mainly for inmates who can't take advantage of the other programs (parole, halfway house, comm sentencing, etc). It was for inmates who would "max out" before any structured release.

If I'm remembering this right

Hmmm interesting! Well if that is what the program is then I am confused (as always). He has only been in a year and is scheduled to discharge in March. I cant imagine why his case worker would recommend him for that when he has a very supportive family and an HVAC job waiting for him when he gets out. Oh well who knows, you would think other inmates need that more than someone only there for a year and they could spend the time and money on them. I swear sometimes I wonder about the people working in these facilities. He tried to ask his caseworker what it was and his answer, well he didnt have a real clear answer either. Thanks soo much for all the help and suggestions You guys rock

I went and read the thread Momma posted and the one from early December...and yep, we were all talking about the same thing...lol.

Missin, is March his max out date? If it is, then this does make some sense, I think. This program is supposed to be for those who are going to be released from prison with no supervision (no parole). Someone finally realized that by not giving parole, many of these guys were getting sent straight out into the streets with no hope for a better life, keeping the recidivism rates sky high. The 1486 bill is meant to give those guys a version of parole while still in prison (structered lessons, tools for success, counseling, etc...I would guess).

In the December thread about this, liltoomean posted a reply she got back from the DOC about this program......

"The 1486 bill specifically states that a reentry facility may be created but only with federal or private funds. No state funds can be used to create this institution. We have found no federal or private funds to date; therefore this "program" as yet does not exist. However, I will tell you that every institutional case manager is charged with assisting offenders with reentry."

I don't know where things stand now but that was only a month ago.

It is awfully ridiculous isn't it! That's like saying we're going to pass a law that's tough on crime, but only if the criminals turn themselves in. At the moment, no criminals are turning themselves in so the program isn't up and running yet

I wish they would just come out and admit that Ok lawmakers love being able to go to Washington and say how big, bad, and mean we are to evildoers.....no matter what the cost. Everything else is just to appease the "tree huggers" enough so we aren't considered a terrorist state

Well thats kinda why we are confused also. We heard that there is so much overcrowding in Oklahoma jails that they are releasing a whole bunch of inmates. He has heard from several inmates that they denied parole or have only been there a month and they are still getting paroled shortly. You know who knows anymore, hence the title of my thread. He has asked even correctional officers that say yes there are around 5000 supposed inmates on this release list. But now is HVAC instructor has added him back to the class roster and say he is not leaving now. THis was after him telling my husband word for word on Tuesday that he was going to dishcharge on Friday so they had to change his graduation date from HVAC school from March to this Friday. I swear I have absolutely no clue anymore, its almost a waste to try and figure them out anymore.....its hurting my brain

I would try calling the facility and talking with either his case manager or someone who would know if you need to be there tomorrow to pick him up!!!

I wish you all the best and I hope for you he does get to come home tomorrow!!!

The friend that I visit is also at JHCC......he has said the same thing about people being there for a short time but are scheduled to go home soon....I don't know what the deal is....but we know that he has about 8 months left and it can't get here soon enough!!!

Hmmm I just wish they could tell us the deal just ONCE. I talked to my husband and he said he doesnt want me to call his caseworker because his HVAC instructors are acting like its some big secret, and when he tries to talk to them about it they change the subject and wont answer him. SOOO I guess I am just to sit here and pray to GOD that the phone rings for me to come pick him up tomorrow. Thanks! and good luck to you also...Please say a prayer for my husband and I
