Sweetnsassy, has his lawyer filed an appeal? That is the first step. He only has a certain amount of time to do it, so make sure it gets done. If he had a public defender, it would be free. Otherwise, around $10,000. Make sure this happens. The appeal process takes aprox. a year, then on to a post conviction relief (if the appeal does no good). I'm sorry, honey, I don't know anything about the medical part of SCDC, but I wishl you all the luck in the world in getting some help. Also, I will keep you both in my prayers. Even if the appeals process does no good, it gives them something to hope for and they all need hope. That is what keeps them (and us) going.
I answered your PM before I read your postings. Try the direct appeal first. If there is anyway I can help, let me know.

I just wanted to let you guys know how much you have helped me. I have never missed anyone as much as I miss my son. I still have another son at home and a loving husband, but I miss my boy. We are so close. But this website has been a lifesaver for me. I think I have read everything so far. It's bad but its nice to have someone out there to share things with. He is in Evans and He finally got to call me. I was expecting a sad call, but he has made so many Christian friends already. Even other inmates are putting notes in his mail to me. They wouldn't give me their name, because they didn't want me to feel obligated to write them back. But we have some really special people in prison. I want to thank everyone for helping me, and their loved one for helping my son.

Hi nekes, Welcome to PTO. I sent you a Private Message. You should also post in the Federal Forum. Someone there may have a loved one in Edgefield. Best wishes and let us know what you find out.

Hello everyone! I found this site through aol. My boyfriend is going through processing at Kirkland. He was given a year but he only has to do six months so he should be home in July. I am 7 months pregnant with his son. My due date is July 5th and his release date is July 9th hopefully I won't go into labor until he comes home. I am currently attending college getting my associates degree in Accounting. This website has really given me a whole lot of information.

I think I posted this in the wrong place the first time. Sorry about that. I just wanted to intro myself. I live in Kershaw and my best friend is on year 6 of a 15 year sentence. He is currently at Evans in Bennettsville, SC. He's been bounced back and forth between there and Kershaw CI since his time began for reasons that no one seems to be able to explain to us.

I visited a lot when he was In Kershaw Correctional. It's only about five minutes from my home so I was there every weekend, Saturday and Sunday for the entire four hours. It was great getting to spend those 8 hours a week with him. Since he is back at Evans however I am not able to visit. Its just too far away and I cant afford the gas to get there like that. I also have a hard getting a sitter so, yea. Hopefully things will get worked out, and he will be moved back to Kershaw. I think someone told his mom that he was moved there to go through the rehabilitation course that is mandatory for his parole to be approved. I'm not exactly sure. he goes up for parole on Aug. 2nd, but we've been through this twice already and it just doesnt seem like its going to happen.

Default New to life as an inmates bestfriend

Well this is somewhere I never thought I would be, but I guess a lot of us can say that. My best friend of over 20 years went to jail 2 weeks ago. The are moving her from Aiken Detention today to Kirkland for processing. I have no idea where she will go from there. She was arrested for embessiling funds from her workplace and got 2 years with probably 8 months served. She's scared, I'm scared, Her 8 y/o son is scared. I would appreciate any info I can get as to what to expect. Still don't know what level prison she will be in but it looks like there are only 3 to choose, 2 being a level 3 and 1 being a level 1-b. Any ideas?
Also would appreciate any advance info I need to prepare for this long wait. Thanks in advance and I am very glad I found this place.
I also think posted in the wrong place the first time but I will figure this out sooner or later.

Kat, welcome to PTO! I'm glad that you're here. You willl find lots of information and support in the SC Forum. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. She and her son will need your support during this time. Get your visitation forms filled out as soon as possible so that you can visit after the month at Kirkland. Write to her often. She needs to hang in there and get through Kirkland and things will get better after that. Some of our members are more familiar with women's prisons than I am, so I hope that they will post too. Please feel free to ask any questions. We are here for you.

Thank you for the reply. We are still kind of in limbo but hanging in there. I am trying to find out if I can go ahead and set up jpay but don't know what block she is in. I guess I will call the prison on Monday and see what to do. I want to go ahead and start sending letters there so that in this time of no communication from her I will know she is at least getting letters.
Thank you so much for this site. I don't feel like I am totally in the dark anymore.
Kat

Default j-pay

I got the j-pay set up but don't know when she will recieve it. Can't talk to her to find out. How do I figure out when she can buy things? Or do I just have to wait to hear from her?

Thanks for the welcome. I will have to hear from her by mail because of the r&e right now and she still has to get the phone form to me. Don't know how long that takes but hopefully not too long. As it is I will just put a little money on jpay everytime I can that way I know she isn't totally broke.

The phone forms usually dont take very long. I think it took a week for him to get me the form and just a few days after I sent it back he was able to call. We've had some problems but they were all because of Sprint, and not the prison or anything like that. I hope it goes quickly for you and you get to talk to her soon.

Hi Friend....

I usually hang out in the Federal Forum.......but recently my guy tried to call me.......and I did NOT know it......but my number was blocked. I had to check w/ my local phone company (it was fine on their end) and THEN call Correctional Billing Services to unblock my phone. It was done almost immediately. I don't know if this is a federal issue only.... or if it applies to state....... maybe somebody else will know.

BTW, the block was NOT for failure to pay bills....... it was to make sure I keep paying bills. LOL

Blessings,

Doni

Hello my name is Kristine my husband is curently at Krikland R&E I have no clue how long he will be there or where he is going from there. I received one letter from him and was told this would be the only letter due to someone stealing his evelopes and paper.
