Default Just a Novice...

Hi! I'm Stormy. My man, D, is in the STOP program at Broad River CI in Columbia. He was whisked away from me on March 13,2006. That was one of the hardest days of my life. He's my! We hadn't been apart for more than 48 hours since we met. I felt totally lost. I think I slept for a week! Didn't answer calls or anything, unless it was him. They kept him in county for almost 2 weeks, then he was at Kirkland R&E until May 4. I got to see him once in county on March 18. Then I saw him on May 5 & he hasn't been allowed visitors since then (caught smokin ). They didn't take his phone privelages until 5-15 though. So I haven't talked to him in 24 days. I got one envelope with about 5 letters in it, I guess someone gave him some paper & the one envelope cause I don't think he was allowed to go to canteen. It's really hard when you don't have any communication at all - almost unbearable. I just keep writing him everyday & get something in the mail at least every 2 days or so, depending on work. Thanks for letting me vent. I really miss him so much - so much that it hurts!

Welcome to PTO Stormy! You will find a lot of understanding and support here. The whisked away part is awful! I had to go to work and teach a class after that happened to me. It was horrible! Are you feeling better now? Have you heard any more from D? Hang in there and visit us often. We will help you get through it.

Yeah, that must be tough. Not apart for more than 2 days too.........to away all the time. That must stink. I'm sorry.

Can you get a little $$ into his canteen/commisary for stamps and envelopes, and paper/pen?

I may be totally wrong.... cuz my guy is in Federal....but even if they're in the hole they can write letters and receive letters.....so I'm TOLD anyway.

Keep writing...... I number my letters as well as date them. That way he knows if he's missing any. Hey, it is a system and it helps.

Wishing you peace. Blessings,

Doni

My son was arrested in York county last year and was sentenced to 3 yrs April of this year. He is 22 and he's my baby. This has been the longest 2 months I have ever been through. He's in Allendale and we have been to visit him every week end since we have been approved. It's a long ride but worth every minute of it just to see his face. Does anyone know if they will stay at the same place or do they get moved around a lot?

Welcome Jacobsmom! I've made that ride from York Co. to Allendale. It's a very long rode. Please watch your speed through the small towns. I wasn't speeding and still got a $175 ticket. I've heard of some inmates being moved but they usually stay there until their custody level changes. He could put in for a transfer to request a move closer to home. Sometimes that works. If he wants to work, Prison Industries at Allendale is a very good place. They make hardwood floors for Anderson Flooring and Tennis balls for Wilson. They also make cleaning supplies for the prison system. It helps pass the time and the management is nice.

I'm glad you've found us. Please visit and post often!

Sorry. Been trying to respond & having technical difficulties. Had a detailed response typed & couldn't get it to post. Been on an emotional roller coaster. Talked to D. Thought I could visit Fri., but couldn't. Saw him @ court Mon. Thought we had 18 more days, but who knows now! Judge added a clause to his agreement (for an identical, concurrent sentence w/time served), this was from pendings. Now he has to stay in until a bed is available for INPATIENT drug rehab!!!That could take, well I don't know, how long! & then he'll have to complete that, which from what I can tell, could be 30 - 90 more days. I feel so discouraged. I want him healthy, but at home! & I felt like he was mocking him about his addiction when the sentence was read. It was like, So sir, you WILL get your treatment.

Glad you are here, Jacobsmom. Don't know about the moving around. Sorry. How long is your drive? I know what you mean by the longest 2 months of your life. This 93 days has been a nightmare, but I know we will make it. Hopefully, something good will come of all this. Good luck to you & your family. I hope the rest of this time goes faster for you all.

Our drive is 2-1/2 hours. We were hoping he would get at Wateree but then I heard it doesn't have air. Does anyone ever get released on their parole date? The lawyer told us that he would only have to serve 1 year but now I believe he was lying to us. I think he only wanted our $$$$ and could care less about what happened to our son. He just told us what we wanted to hear more or less. I've learned to not trust lawyers or cops.

I think he will do a year and a half unless he makes parole. That would be 1/2 of a 3 year sentence. His max out date is subject to change for the good or bad, depending on how he does while there. Just tell him to keep to himself and he will be OK. My prayers are with you.

My grandson is at Kirkland R&E and he has the same problem with the envelopes. I jist don't understand why they are limited to so few envelopes...This is a time that they need to keep in touch with their families....With so few envelopes, he is having to make the decision of who to write and just started being able to call his Mom...He has been there since June 6th, expected to go to Shock Incarceration at any time..Is there anybody that knows about Shock Incarceration? I do know that when he gets there , he won't be able to write or call for a month...But will he be able to buy things, what he is allowed to have or not have...Would appreciate any info that anyone has.....

I don't know if this link will work....... if not just go to the top and type in the search feature: Shock Incarceration ~~~ There seems to be a lot of info there.

Best of Luck,

Doni

Exclamation I Feel So Lost And Alone!

Hello, my name is Sherri! I found this site thru "Google" a couple of months back! I have found this site to be very informative, but now I'm hoping it will provide me a life line, as my situation has worsened!

My Joshua was incarcerated in Sept. 2005! Since that time I have prided myself in being so strong! That was until two weeks ago! See Joshua was located at Perry Correctional in Pelzer, SC, which is only 35 minutes from where I live! Knowing he was so close has always provided me with comfort! But all that changed when he was suddenly transferred, without warning, to Evans Correctional in Bennettsville, SC!

On a random Wednesday night, two weeks ago, I received a frantic call from Josh, stating he had just found out he was being moved! And not just moved, but moved 3.5 hours away from me, away from home! And in less than 12 hours it was done! Nothing has been the same since!

Although I wouldn't normally see Josh during the week anyway, call me crazy, but my heart and soul feels the distance between us! All of a sudden I feel completely hopeless and weak! I have an overwhelming since of lonliness!

I have always taken great pride in being strong for Josh! But with this change, has come the realization that I cannot do this alone anymore! I need the support of people who truely understand what I am going thru!

I have made the journey to see Josh three times so far, which takes 7 hours roundtrip, and a major toll on my body as well! As hard as it is I will not let the miles stop me! I made a promise to Josh once that I intend on keeping! I told him that I would follow him to the ends of the earth, and that I would always, always be there for him, no matter what!

In order for me to be able to live up to that promise, I've come to realize and accept I may need some help to get thru! I'm praying that thru your support and encouragement, that I will find the strength to top this mountain and discover brighter days!

I hope that one day I can use my expierience to help others who find themselves in this overwhelming place of confusion and lonliness! In the meantime I pray you will give me the support and tools I need to build a brighter future for Josh and I! I am truely grateful to have found this website!

You should all be truely proud of what you do to help so many! I also want you to know, that to at least one person in this world, you do make a difference!

Sherri. Welcome to PTO. You will find lots of support and understanding here. We know what you are going through. I know that distance makes a difference even if you can't see them often. My guy moved from 20 minutes away to 2 1/2 hours away to 11 hours away. It is very difficult. It gets easier to deal with over time though. I know right now, it doesn't feel that way to you but it will get better. Hang in there and keep in touch. We are all here for each other.

Unhappy I need support and I have lots of questios!

Hi everyone, my name is Jennifer and my husband got arrested in Lexington County on April 21, 2006 and he has been in there ever since. On July 13, 2006 he went to court and was sentenced to 5 years at SCDC, well we thought he was going to go last Wednesday, but he didn't. He pretty much knows for sure that he will be going this Wednesday, which is July 26th. We know he will have to go to R&E at Kirkland, which is on Broad River Road, but we don't know where he will go from there. I just want to know if he will be able to call home and when. We know he can write and we know he can't have any visits unless he has to stay there more than 30 days, but we weren't sure if he could call or not. Also, on the website for R&E at Kirkland, they said you could NOT wear your normal clothes, but that you could have 10 letters, 10 pictures, a bible, a watch, and your wedding ring...The only problem is that I have his wedding ring at home because it was being repaired when he was arrested. Does anyone know if there is any way I can get it to him and how I would have to go about doing so? I am really scared and nervous about him going and I can't talk to him for 30 days. His lawyer pretty much promised us probation and he got 5 years instead, which has really devestated me and my husband. I need support and people I can talk to that know how I feel and understand what I am going through. I am truely glad that I found this website! Thank you to everyone who responds!

Hi Jennifer. Welcome to PTO! I know how you're feeling. My guy was told that he would probably get 2-3 years and ended up with 10. It was horrible. I was scared and confused and had no one to talk to, then I found PTO. This has truly been a lifesaver for me. After he gets to Kirkland, it may be a few weeks before you hear from him. Hang in there. It will get better. Really. He will be given a few envelopes and a day and time that he can call. Check the Prison Profile section for more information about Kirkland: http://prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=366. After Kirkland, he will go where there is bed space. The wedding ring - you won't be able to get it to him. He can only have one if he was wearing it when he was arrested. They take inventory of everything the inmates are wearing before visitation so you can't even give it to him there. I know that you're feeling completely lost now but it will start getting better after his first phone call. Remember that we are here for you at any time. I'm glad that you found us.

Hi Brooks! Welcome to PTO! I'm glad that you've found the site helpful. Long drives are so tiring and expensive too. I'm sorry that you have so far to go.

Default Thanks for in info

Thanks for the information. I thought that I had read somewhere that I couldn't get the wedding ring to him, but do you think if I talked to the warden after he gets where he is going to be for awhile that they will let him have it because I personally don't see the difference if they were arrested with it on or not, if they are allowed to keep it, it shouldn't matter if they were arrested with it or not, but if he can't have it, I know he is married to me and so does he and that's all that matters. I get to go to the county jail and visit him today and tomorrow, but its behind a glass window, and then they will come an take him to kirkland on wednesday. It is really going to be hard for me to go that long without hearing from him. I love him a lot and I am going to stick by him until the day he gets to come home. I will probably be posting here a lot over the next 30 days. I really need the support! Thank you so much for having this group! If anyone wants to talk email me or message me. I would be glad to make new friends, and thanks again for your support!
