Default Warning About Posting Personal Information

I have noticed (and taken part in) a number of the threads that have been popping up regarding personal information such as birthdays, eye color, where you are from, what you drive or first drove, etc.
I don't have anything against these type of threads but I do want everyone to think about what they are posting, and if it is going to worry you in the future.
In the past I have had people request that I change their username, or delete pictures, posts and threads. In some cases, I don't mind doing this.. In the case of it destroying a thread, I do. It also takes a lot of time to go through and make these changes. Something I do not have an over abundance of.
Please think before you post. It may be fun and all, but if you think it is going to make you nervous in the future with this type of information being online, please do not post it.
Thanks,
David

Lulu... I started getting paranoid when I saw all those threads. What I mean is, I trust you guys a lot, but we're on the WWW- this info is accessible to the entire world now.

I don't have problems posting some info about myself, but I have to tell you, I sometimes regret that I posted pictures of my kids.

I think that the threads that are being posted are fun, BUT, just be aware that some of us get really comfortable here and feel that we can post anything. Just remember that anything that is posted here can be seen by the world!

Oh man then I shouldn't have put my address and my 1-800 call me number on here? LOL....J/k...I know what y'all mean! It is a scary thing when you think about all those weirdos out there! Thats why I have not put my honeys last name anywhere on here. I don't want any weirdo being able to track him down to my home.

I don't want to sound very nieve here but ...

What are the repercussions of having a childs picture on here? I mean like if there is no other info to go with it what can happen?
I recall ages ago that Menolly (I think it was?) said something about having a problem because she had posted her son's picture somewhere, not here, somewhere else ... I was curious then but didn't ask, now that it has come back up, I really would like to know. My four children are all adults so basicly no worry there but I do have grandchildren that I worry concerning who they speak with online... that part really makes me nuts as I know they get NO supervision online from their mother, my daughter! I just recently found that my 15 yr old GD has recieved pics from others/strangers (boys and girls) ... she told me she hasn't sent her pic out to anyone but at the time I didn't realize I should be concerned.

So please ... I want ALL the horror stories!!! PM me if you'd rather not post them in the forum.

Thanks

Teb,

I know that my daughter is in Linda's forum. Please delete her photo. If need be I will have Linda pm you. Thank you.

Lulu,

Thank you, frankly it did not bother Linda or I till you mentioned your concern. As I said before I don't mind info about myself, but I don't want any grief brought to my children.

well one thing, some one can get that pic i placed on here and take it for them self. I am not worried about them coming to get my kids, but what will they do with the pics? I have known about that to happen. I just toally forgot about this.

I dont blame yo Linda. It will soon be taking care of I am sure.

Fed-X is right. Especially don't write the full name or address of your loved ones or yourselves. I've just searched Google for the name of my son, and found MY posts in PTO giving his full name and address. I should have been aware of this, but I forgot my own recommandations to other people, and gave his address publicly.

If you have any doubt, go to www.google.com and search for the name you want. You could be surprised.

Un abrazo,
Andrés

Well, I have never had a problem, I went to Google and did a search and found nothing... I don't know, but I have never been afraid of this type thing.... and so far, have never had a problem...

It just kills me to see what people post on here, and elsewhere. If you are in a public forum, and especially one with sensitive info use one email and screen name just for that purpose. If you want to see just do a search and see what comes up, you may be surprised.

Posting pictures, those can be taken easily and used for ANY purpose, from trading in user groups to used as the persons own child on another site. Or just regular pics of yourself, haven't you heard people say this one or that one has a picture of my husband on their FB page?

It is easy to do a search for his prison record, his arrest record, news articles about him..his REAL crime, with a minimum of info. With so many penpals and MWI situations why be foolish with your man's/friend's safety online. This stuff can not be deleted, yes by mods but it is already cached and available elsewhere. This is a public forum so posting personal info and other things are not a good idea. A lot can be said or fun still had without revealing all you know to the public.
