Default New here and asking about mail to death row inmates

I have recently started to write to a guy in Ely on death row...it seems that he hasn't gotten some of my letters because he sent me one the other day wondering why I haven't written back...and I've sent him several letters and a few funny cards...is there some kind of mailroom stuff going on where the inmates don't get their mail? Thank you for any input you can send me...Cathy

Hi Wilkie welcome to PTO

If the inmate cant recieve any mail for some reason, they are notified of the reasons, and the mail is returned to you with a slip and those reasons. Like some states have limits with pages, and if you are over it comes back. I have ordered books that they have been denied, he got the slip, and was asked, if he wanted it trashed or sent back to me.
This can take time before it gets back to you. Perhaps it is a delay in the mailroom.

My husband is on the row in Flornce, Arizona. The mail is always screwed up. It takes sometimes 13 or 14 days, for him to get a letter from me. I mail everyday and at times he gets 6, in a single night.Does that clue you in, to the efficiency of the prison mail system? I hate to say it to anyone, but you will get used to it. We have to, because it is not likely to change. The units all work understaffed. If they are short man power, the mailroom takes the shortage and this is the way it is. Just "hurry up and wait," as my husband tells me. In the prison mail room it would be nice if they hurried at all.

Good luck, I definitely understand your problem...........

Hey there and welcome to PTO. Luckily I havent had any problems with "mailrooms" I live in Europe, and sometimes my friend in AZ DR tells me, that he has get my letter in 2 days! Wow. Usually it takes 4-6 days there or from there to hear, but I have been just lucky I think as I have heard lots of stories about delay. I hope you will be getting your letter fast and enjoy your friendship. Love. Noora

Wilkie I have a friend at Ely and we were always having problems with his mail. I got a letter the other day and this is what he said

"Several inmates have seen a certain female guard throw away mail. They also have seen her enter the bottom washroom with mail and exit empty handed, which she denys of course."

I know him and I have gone through alot of why aren't you writing now we expect mail to get lost.
I am not sure if what the other inmates are telling him is true, but I do know alot of mail disappears.
