Default Do you exercise? Do you go to the gym or exercise at home?

I am going to start NOW
This past year I have gained, and now I'm as big as I've ever been. I never weigh myself. Don't own any scales. I also don't diet. I would rather exercise. lol
I need encouragement 16 Years ago, I excersised religously to an ESPN morning show That was after I had my first daughter, and I was FIT.
I don't want to go to a gym, I would like to exercise at home for about 30 to 45 minutes per day to start.
think I need a video to follow. Does anyone know any good ones that wouldn't kill me at first?
I will continue once I start, just want to start off rite. Thanks for any advise everyone
Also, have you lost weight? You can show pictures if you want to
Thanks

I couldnt vote because I do both.

At home, I take do long walks or hikes with the dog. I also do stretching and some light yoga (the only thing that has saved my back all these years).

At the gym, I do weights 3x a week and cardio 5x a week or more when I can find the time and feel good enough.

Unfortunately, everything is dependent on how well I am feeling.

I can't seem to get too motivated if I am here at home trying to workout. I have some really nice equipment here at home; but I guess it is mostly the environment of being at the gym that helps motivate me. I like watching other people workout-- it kind of helps push me along. If someone is on a machine right next to me and they are moving faster than me then that makes me move faster trying to keep up with them, you know. I know that my workouts are more effective at the gym than at home. Plus I love all of the nautilus equipment that my gym has, all I have are free weights here at home. All in all, I have to say that I like doing both but I prefer the gym.

Thanks flygirlaa2 and Nuro's Wife
Well, I tried to excercise today, and did some leg lifts, etc: but it is kinda hard to think of all the moves without some kind of video or something to follow So I guess I will do what moves I can think of till I get a video.
I am also going to have to stop smoking cigarettes They are starting to interfere with my breathing when I'm sitting still, and when I sleep. And I have a smokers cough now I just wish I wasn't addicted, it would be so much easier to quit.
My mom has COPD, and I seem to take after her in all other ways, I hope not that too! And my chest hurts, and feels heavy now too
Thanks

Good luck with the new program!
I walk 1.5 hours per day. Up some really huge hills. I am dripping wet by the time it is over.

My hubby is a major fitness freak and even from in there he keeps me motivated and helps me with my own workout regimen. I love the pilates videos. They are easy to follow and you get a great workout. I also do about 30 minutes of cardio on the treadmill about 4-5 times a week. I want to start on some strength training also. I hate the gym! I think it's like a meat market these days!! I do my best to find ways to work out around the house. I think the key is once you get into it, you become motivated to stay on track! Good luck to you sweetie!!! You can do it!!!

Thank you Mia, and JamesWifey I want to start walking too. My guy says he walks about 7 miles per day, and when he gets out, we are going to walk together. I told him 7 miles would probably kill me at first But then he said we will start off walking around the block , and after the first week we will move up to two blocks and so on. I don't have any kind of equipment , but I may buy a stair stepper, or a threadmill, or a Norticktrack. There is also a popular lake about 5 miles from me, and I may start walking it. I have walked it before. Sometimes I wish I had a motivated excercise buddy to go with me, lol
Thanks everyone

I alternate between jogging/walking on my treadmill and taebo. I get bored easily with exercise, so I have to change it up just a little bit. I plan on taking some exercise classes - maybe step or kickboxing - this fall b/c I'm paying it out of my tuition anyway. Good luck with getting started in your new exercise regime!

SCM, take it slow, all these changes you want to make are going to stress you out and you may not make any of them. I work out at the gym but only because it's free for me. I do some weights, 2x/week and cardio 2x/week. I also have a Walk away the Pounds video that is very low key but definitely is enough for the beginner. I hate exercise, but I suffer through the walking at least. The weight didn't come on overnight, it's not going to come off overnight. Give yourself the same year that you had putting it on to take it off. I've lost 20 pounds since April and have 30 more to go. Good luck honey!

It's just something that you have to put into your daily routine. Walking on my treadmill is on my schedule just like going to work or having dinner with a friend. I get up every morning and walk 3 miles on my treadmill before I do anything. If I don't then I feel like crap all day. Then when I come in from work every afternoon I do a pilates video. I don't know how all of that will change when Jamie comes home, but for right now it works for me.

Ooo! I love working out now! I used to be pretty fit in college when I played tennis for my team but after that I kind of faltered and lost all my muscle. These past couple of months I've gotten back into rollerblading, biking, or even just walking about 3 times a week for about an hour each time. I also do crunches and free weights. Another great tool I've discovered is Billy Blanks tae bo videos. One of my co-workers gave me an old tape to make a copy of and I do that indoors when it's too hot or raining outside. Now I'm hooked and I'm about to order the newest one, Boot Camp. I swear by his workouts. They will get you sweating hardcore within the first 5 minutes! Good luck!

By the way, I HATE the gym lol! Plus, I just can't afford it.

I joined the gym a few months ago and aim for 3-4 times a week for an hour doing excercise bike, treadmill and weights

The hardest part is the getting ready and going......once you're there, it's all good.....lol

Started doing sit ups daily, and now have joined the fitness lab at the local community college, Who needs exercise when you have stress? Lost 13 pounds in 2 months since my man has been locked up!

I ride my bicycle 7 miles a day, some days 3 1/2, just depends on how tired I am. I have lost 25 pounds but seem to be stuck there, I have not lost any weight since November. Oh and I also watch I eat now, low calorie and low fat. I'm starving!!

My friend inside has sent me workout regimens to start me off. He's way into fitness, so I trust him. It's been only a little over a week and I feel great and am losing weight, too. The first workout almost killed me and the next day I couldn't walk, but now I workout everyday, and look forward to his next training lesson for me.

I would TOTALLY recommend the Carmen Electra Striptease Workout videos... They're fun and beneficial for when your man gets home
There's 5 of them... One for every day of the week!
I refuse to work out on weekends, haha... Gotta have a break sometimes

I'm doing kettlenetics and I recommend it. The kettlebell is amazing and I am sweating as if I ran 5 miles.

I exercise both at home with aerobic exercise, and walk and run outside in a park close to my house! Sometimes go to the gym with my son, but to me it is kind of boring!

Right now I go to the gym three times a week - two cardio nights and one weight class night. Once I move into my new place I'll be able to set up my treadmill again so I can go back to 30 minutes every day on that. I do enjoy my gym time though so will keep that up. I really like the classes and have met a lot of real nice people there.

My tip is GET A WII & WII SPORTS (comes with it). Most fun ever and you'll get fit too. Failing that walk as much as you can, and get swimming if possible. I've lost 2 stone doing these things over the last 18 months. If you can get a bike too that'll help even more.
Seriously though, my Wii and walking have worked wonders!!!
Good luck & keep us posted.
