Default Has anyone tried Correspondence Courses?

I know we have all seen Sally Struthers on TV offering the degrees from home and there are plenty of other schools that offer this sort of thing, but has anyone tried them?

Success? No success? Good or bad experience?

What was it like?

Interested in doing it?

I'm just nosy!

Once, for grins and giggles and just because, I took a correspondence course: Professional Environmentalist and Wildlife Management. It was cool. I sent them my money, they sent me monthly reading assignments and tests (I took them weekly). I mailed my test back to them, they sent me the next chapter.

It was a Certified course, no degree. I thought it was fun. I did a kick a$$ paper, even though it was not required, I am just freaky like that...... Anyway.... my paper was a comparison on the Earths environment and the general health of the American people. See, I was taking a Nutrition class at the same time, and really, the similarities are amazing. So, I did a paper on it.

I wish I had kept all that information. But somewhere along lifes path, I tossed it all.

i'm doing a correspondence course now through rue, the college itself is excelsior in ny. it's a bridge program from lpn to rn. everything so far seems good. the biggest problem i have is taking the time to do my schoolwork. it was easier to get up every morning and go to class. here at home there is always some interruption or something else to do.

I've never taken one, but my boyfriend is taking them now to get his Associate's degree (he's taking classes from Ashworth College). He's only been doing it for about 2 weeks, but he likes it so far. From what I understand, they send him one textbook (which is considered one course) at a time. Each textbook has about 10-11 lessons in it, and each lesson has a test (open-book, non-proctored) at the end of it. When he completes each lesson, he takes the test and mails it in. When he completes the entire textbook, they send him a final test for the whole course, which has to be proctored. If he passes, they send him the next textbook. And so on and so forth. Each semester consists of five courses (five textbooks), so the entire degree (four semesters) consists of 20 courses. Hope that helps.
