The URL cannot be posted b/c they are asking for donations for Stan's "defense" to clear his name. Anyone can PM me for it. The funeral is not available yet but will be soon.

Default Decemeber 29 - Keep hope alive

On December 13, 2005, the state of California murdered Stanley Tookie Williams. But they could not kill his spirit and his legacy. In honor of this legacy we will be doing three things in the weeks and months to come: Keep up the fight to prove his innocence, Anchor his redemptive legacy and Continue his work to save youth from lives of crime and violence. Continue his work to save youth from lives of crime and violence. The first event to anchor his legacy will be to commemorate Stan's birthday on December 29th. He would have been 52 years old had the State of California not killed him.

We are calling on all of those who fought for his life to hold candlelight vigils in cities across the nation and around the world in honor of the First Annual Stanley Tookie Williams Worldwide Redemption Day on Thursday, December 29th.

We in northern California will be sponsoring a Candlelight Vigil and Rally at the Capitol Building in Sacramento:

Thursday, Dec 29th
4:00-6:00 pm
West steps (10th Street & Capitol Mall)
Sacramento, California

Default Bianca Jagar's Words at Stan's Funeral

[Editor's Note: This is the edited text of a speech given by Bianca Jagger at Stanley Tookie Williams' memorial service.]

When I learned that there was going to be a public viewing of Stanley Tookie Williams' casket for friends and the public to pay their respect, I couldn't help thinking about the tragic irony -- Williams had to be executed before he could be free to visit this church. I can imagine how often he must have dreamed about the possibility of wandering out of prison during those long lonely years in jail. We must rejoice for him, for he is Free at Last, and no one can prevent him from being here, not even Arnold Schwarzenegger.
On Nov. 21, I met Stanley Tookie Williams at the San Quentin State prison. That morning the weather was beautiful, and the sun was shining. A prison guard escorted me; we walked approximately 1,000 meters before we arrived at the death row unit. I had expected to meet Williams behind a barrier of glass and wire partition, as I had when I met Karla Fay Tucker and Gary Graham in death row in Texas. Instead, I was going to meet Williams face to face. He was already inside a small cell with Jesse Jackson and Barbara Becnel, his co-author and longtime supporter. Before I entered, Williams put his hand behind his back through a small aperture in the metal door for the guard to handcuff him. Once I was inside and the door was closed, they removed the handcuffs. He reached out to say hello. Williams was tall and had a muscular build. It was visible that he was once a bodybuilder.

i was touched by her article....and i also read some of the comments that followed....i had a right mind to respond to some of the ignorance...but decided not too...cause it wouldn't do me any good....some people want to believe the worse in others instead of looking for the best.....so i will let it ride!!!!

IF anyone is in Nevada I will be locating a place to hold the candlelight vigil for Redemption day on Stan's birthday if anyone wants to attend as well let me know
And I will continue to do so each and everytime an event is scheduled to ensure his message never dies.

Default Stanley "Tookie" Williams' final wishes have been honoured

I found this article recently while doing some searches. I thought it was very lovely that Barbara Becnel and Shirley Neal have honoured his last wishes; spreading his ashes in South Africa and returning him to the motherland.

One of the things I love about PTO is so many people bring so much information to the forum that, apparently, it's even feasible to learn on here what's going on in one's own backyard!!

Tranquility, I am so glad that you posted this because I remember back when after the execution happened, there was talk about Tookie's his last wishes and that Mesdames Neal and Becnel would later reveal it. I didn't want to miss that and thanks to you, I was able to find out!!

Tookie's shell was taken but because no one can touch his soul, his soul lives on. Tookie is out of the ratrace, Tookie is chillin because his spirit is now so free.

HeSoHandsome, there is no need to thank me, honestly. I was just glad to share some wonderful news with everyone. You are right though, Stan's shell was taken, but his soul lives on, and no one can get to his soul. Although I never knew Tookie personally, I was glad to have read his final wishes had been fulfilled and he has been returned to the motherland - South Africa. May you continue to rest in peace Stan Williams.

- Ben.

HeSo - I just want to point out that although I knew they were going to lay him to rest here in SA... there was no news of it in the papers or on the radio or on Television for that matter.

I'm glad his final wishes were carried out.

Mr. Williams did so many good things while he was in prison--I hope his message will continue to be spread for generations to come.
