Thumbs up Wow! A beautiful book on lifers

I just ordered both these books, and I'm going to send them to my lifer too. I'm giving both a thumbs-up !

Doing Life : Reflections of Men & Women Serving Life Sentences
by Howard Zehr

Just seeing the beautiful portraits of lifers is amazing. The photos show their humanity and dignity -- sides you'll never see in a newspaper mug shot. And their words are just as powerful.

ps. I just realized the lifers are posing in normal street clothes, makes them look more human.

Check out the photos: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/1561...55#reader-page

Zehr also has an equally compassionate book about crime victims; as a victim of violent crime myself, I appreciate how he shows the range of ways people deal with it and how not every victim is crying for blood as politicians would have us believe:

Transcending: Reflections of Crime Victims

Thumbs up Update! Got the book!!

I just got the Lifer book.. absolutely beautiful and very moving.

I highly recommend it, it's a nicely done, artistic work, sad yet uplifting at the same time.

Like I mentioned above, it makes a huge difference to see these lifers in "civilian" clothes, it humanizes them in ways no words can express. Their own words, well... they grip your heart and won't let go.

Both thumbs up
