Question Going to Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville soon

Hi everyone.. I've read so much up here... and what I've learned most is that you have a tremendous support system here. My twin and I have been sharing this account, and there are a few post here from her.. so try not to get too confused.

I'll be going to Marysville in about a month. My stay there should be brief (six months). I am scared to death, I've never been in trouble before. I'm older (37), and very petite... what does that say for the kind of stay I can expect?

My lawyer says I'll probably just report to county (CCNO) the night before getting shipped out (I hope). A big question I have is what should I bring with me??

Also: Can I smoke? can I take smokes with me? pictures? books? how long do I have to wait to see my family? and what the heck is COmmunity Controlled Probation? will I ba able to move to another town while I'm on it?

Thanks in advance for any help avavilable!

Default Marysville

Greetings

I was in Marysville for a short stay back in the early 90's. Sadly I don't recall if there was smoking or not because I never smoked. You can take a few pictures of your loved ones, nothing racy and they must be out of the frames and not be polariods. You can't take any books with you paper back or otherwise, with the exception of one of those paperback Bibles. They have a library and books there for you to read.

When you first get there you are tested and inspected inside and out including taking basic skills testing, an IQ test and getting a complete physical. They do while yuour houses in a seperate reception building and it is the worst part of the whole stay. You get up at some ungodly hour like 5 am and march in a dual line over to the dining facility and showers there are limited to like 2 min each. They give you a house coat and a night gown type thing to wear and all I remember is never being warm enough. You are also limited in commisary while your in the reception building. I think the phone is limited here to and you have to sign up to make collect calls.

You will eventually assigned to a housing facility and given a colored shirt depending on your security level. The housing unit I was in had two person rooms and one bunk set so you will either get upper or lower assigned to you. Watch you uniforms really closely its easy to lose them thru the facility laundry and they make you pay for them. The pants are kakki brown, at least they were when I was there.

It is not a bad place; it looks bad because it's old. I spent all of my free time in the gym or law library, They assigned me a job in the kitchen so I got plenty to eat. Also, if you take medication they walk you back and forth to the clinic to get them at regular times I think. I didn't take any so I don't really remember.

Regards.
Lynne

Dear Lynne
That was the best info received thus far. Thank you for sharring that and allowing us all to benefit from your tough time.

Now yep... I have another question? Does the system ever really lose the inmates? or is that just bad movies? But does one know of any case where they go to visit their inmate... and are told they have no record of them in the system?
Just wondering if this happens and are there ways to prevent it?

Can anyone help me? My friend is in Marysville. She has spent almost her first month there. She told me her sentence is for 6 months... BUT her "stated prison term" says its THREE YEARS??? is there a difference between the sentence and the stated prison term? She has not written back to me yet - so I dont know anything.

Default Just a song for a special friend...

I drank till I stumbled.
I drank till I fell.
When the drunk part was over..
..it hurt me like hell.
Now I know about drinking,
so I know one thing is true:
Being drunk is a lot like loving you.

Because I loved you till I stumbled.
And I loved you till I fell.
And when the loving part was over?
Well it hurt me like hell.

So I know what a taste of the wrong love can do.

And I woke up some mornings,
and sworn off the drink.
At that - I've done reasonably well.
But I haven't done well swearing off
you and me.
At that Iv'e failed miserably.

I felt the hangover of loving you all nite.
And I sat in a bar all alone in a fight.

I bottled up feelings-
And I poured them out too.

I drank till I stumbled.
And I loved you till I fell.
When the drunk/love part was over.
Love hurt me like hell.

Well I know about drinking
And I know about love
So I know one thing is true:
Being drunk is a lot like loving you

And although I know what a taste of the wrong love can do.

But sometimes baby... I still get "drunk"
...loving you.

Default Been out of Marysville for 3 years now did 7.

I hope that I can help.
Your question as to smoking , well any smoking is done outside on breaks. I am not sure about bringing them in to the prision but you should definitly bring money in with you . Usually the county jail that brings you to Marysville will make sure that it gets put on your books otherwise it will be awhile before your family can get you money in . Last that I knew you had to have a visit before you could receive any money from your family . If the admissions system is still the same you will have to go through classification proceedures medical, psych and security classification before you get out into population. You will have to also sit through presentations that different prision groups give like victim awareness and definity substance abuse orientation.
Once your in population alot changes and you will be able to move around slightly more. I think that I heard that you were not going to do a long time , if this is true then it is very possible that you will be shipped to Columbus or to Northeast PreRelease . They do not like to release from Marysville. Do not listen to anyone , socialize ,but be very careful few will be your friend. What ever the reason you went to Marysville think about how you are going to prevent from ever putting yourself in that situation again. I use to talk to admission ladies when they came in , alot of promises, often they returned shortly after release.
Community control is the same as parol . You will have a parole officer , depending where you are going to live ( city)determines how controlling they are. If you abide by the rules you can get off sooner than you expected. I will be very willing to answer anyother questions you can get my e-mail on my profile and sent a private message. You be ok.
Tucker

Default just went thru it

hey. you will be ok, but it won't be pleasant. Bring to the county 20 packs of unopened soft pack cigarettes, shampoo (clear bottle only), soap unopened, all of your personals. wear to the county tennishoes (white, or blue or black) bring white t-shirts (no v-neck) make sure you have money with you in your purse (put some on your books and keep some in your purse in the property of the jail (this way it will automatically be put on your books in marysville)..otherwise you will be waiting 3-4 weeks for your money to arrive from your county. bring 25 pre-stamped envelopes (they are considered money in admissions if you plan to buy cigarettes in admissions.
