Default 18 year old Daughter Locked Up

Hi All! My name is Faye and I have an 18 year old daughter in the Wisconsin Prison System. She was put in the "big house" when she was just 17. Wow, have my eyes been opened! Nichole has 10 months left to serve for violating probation on 2 charges of burglery. It was to buy crack cocaine, of course. Anyway, it is comforting to know that there are other people that deal with the same situations that I do. I think one of the biggest shockers for me was when Nichole told me they found eight cavities in her mouth but can't fix them for 7 months!! She has been to the dentist every six months since she was a baby. I understand there's only 2 part time dentists at Taycheedah. Has anyone else encountered this type of situation? Is it legal?

Welcome to PTO! I'm glad you found us and joined.... What you describe regarding the dentist seems to be the norm in most or all facilities.... Just hope that she doesn't get sick or really have something wrong with her as their treatment of the people is the same most of the time....

Deb

That's what I thought. Man, I don't treat my dogs like that! What about air conditioning? It is almost 100 degrees here and there is no AC in her facility. Is that "normal" too?

I don't know of any facilities that have air conditioning in anything except the offices for the employees and sometimes in the visiting rooms... Anywhere inmates are is usually not air conditioned.... This even includes states like Texas and Florida from what I've read...

That's what I thought. Just hope she doesn't have an asthma attack or something.

Welcome to PTO, sorry to hear about the teeth problems I know what that is like. How long has you daughter been in? Do you get to see her often that really helps our loved ones if we can stay close to them. Love Barbara

She has been "in" a total of 13 months with the 10 to go. I try to visit her once a week for two hours. They are contact visits, which sure beats county where it was through glass. I also try to make sure she has money to buy the "non-contraband" items. Wish there were more I could do. I know she got herself into this mess but at the same time, she's just a kid.

Hi Faye
Its about the same here in Canada. No dentist unless its for extractions and no air conditioning. My son is pretty fortunate as he has a fan in his cell. We sent it to him when he first when in. He loves it.
Glad to meet you
Gillian

Josh had to wait a month to have one of his teeth pulled because it got infected. It did cost only $2.00 Can you imgaine if our dentist bill was only $2.00, I wouldn't trust any dentist that only charged that. As for AC, Josh got transfered before summer really hit, but did complain it was SOOO hot in the beginning of June, now he is on Work Release and says they always keep it very cold in there. Better cold than hot. Hope your daughter is going well. Good Luck to both of you. You seem like a great mother to stick by her daughter through the hard times.
