My brother just transfered to Potosi. Not sure what to expect yet he has been in Licking and then Moberly. It sure is a long drive from here (4 hours).

G'day all
I have just made a new friend in Potosi and would like to hear from you all with loved ones and friends in there. Am trying to learn alittle more about what can and cannot be sent and conditions etc. yes I can ask my friend but would rather just stick with the getting to know you stuff first before asking all the big questions so any help would be great.

Welcome to PTO!

PCC is a level 5 prison that houses all the Death Row inmates in Missouri. They have other offenders there, but that is where the DR guys are. They are pretty strict there and if your friend is in the honor house, he has many more privledges than the rest of the camp. The rest is normally in the cells for much of the day and doesn't get as much rec as the honor house guys.

You can send in up to 10 pictures in an envelope (nothing racy, nudity or sexual) and 5 printed pages of NON letter stuff. This would be newspaper articles, magazine pictures, etc. You can type a letter as long as you want, though how they really tell the difference is beyond me! They can make calls during wing time (when they are out of the cells) and on Friday and Saturday night they have "late night" where they are allowed out of the cell after the 10 o'clock count and are out until almost midnight. This is only in the honor house.

Things may be a little different as it's been a year and a half since my husband was there, but things don't change that much!

You cannot send in packages or goodies or stamps or envelopes. You can put money on an account for him to purchase stamps. If you do this and you only wnat him to buy stamps to mail you, then the best thing to do is to put only enough on there for the stamps.

And good for you for writing someone! Too many of the guys don't have anyone that cares!

A word of advice and hopefully not to scare you, but be careful. If you feel something is "off" and you are unsure, check it out. Some of these guys are master manipulators and will do whatever it takes to have money sent in. So be careful and follow your instincts. Be a friend to him, but don't allow him to take advantage of you. If you have any questions or feel there are red flags...don't be afraid to come here and just ask.

my baby is in potosi he just got there in february......... any advice for visits would be much appreciated. its kind of a sticky situation because i want to take his 4 year old daughter but i am not the legal guardian ... the mother is deceased and i am very close with the father so i want to take her to see him and of course i want to see him but the case manager guy said i have to have a picture ID along with a birth certificate .... i can get the BC but how on earth do you get a 4 year old a picture id? especially when im not the legal guardian! does the inmate being on death row affect anything? and also... whats this i see about pictures? you can take pictures? and his daughter is kind of bad i cant lie, adorable but bad.... she has been thru a lot .... so will the inmate get written up if a child misbehaves? seriously ANY info or advice would be greatly appreciated...seeing as the potosi correctional center will be the last and only place ill get to see my baby

You can get a picture ID at the Motor Vehicle Department. It's a state ID. And if she acts up too bad, they can get a violation, but most likely if she is disturbing other people, they will terminate the visit.
