Thanks every and all you good people that responded to my thread. I sit at night and find myself so lonely. Sometimes I think I wont make it till morning. Then sometimes I know there are so many people so much worse off than me. Knowing how loved I am and will always be as long as I stray strong gives me all the strength I will ever need to get through this mess.

Hi, my bf was just sent there last week. I went down there yesterday to go and visit him. He said that it is a lot better than Camp Hill. They have all kinds of sports that he can join. There is also jobs and classes that he can get into. He is also the same age as your son.

My name is Maria I am in CA. my fiancee is at Houtzdale in PA. I just want to say Hi. I have come on here before to check it out but I never seem to find anyone in Pennsylvania. I wonder if there is anyone who could give me any visiting advice or recommend where to stay in PA? The closest airport to Houtzdale? etc...

Hi, Welcome to the PA forum. We may not be as large as the CA forum, but we are here. The nearest real city to SCI Houtzdale is Clearfield. That would be your best bet for a hotel. Unfortunately, they have only a private airport. You would have to fly in to Dubois Regional Airport (DUJ), probably after transferring in Pittsburgh or Erie.

Hello Maria & Beth! My fiance is also in Houtzdale. I travel from near Wheeling, WV once or twice a month to see him. I usually go on the weekend because he works during the week. You are not permitted anything larger than a five in bills but can purchase food, drinks, & snacks in the visiting room. The food is not real good in there so I try to fill him up with something decent when I go. Jewelry and metal will set the alarms off so it is best to keep it a minimum and removable or it will cause delays. You must have an ID and be on his visitor's list. They will give you a locker free of charge to put your keys, purse, etc in and most times will ask if you need one. You are permitted a hug & kiss at the greeting and at the goodbye. As long as you do not get vulgar, they will usually ignore cuddling and touching. There is a motel in Houtzdale but it is a little pricier than some that are a little farther away. If you have any more questions, I will be happy to try and answer them for you.

Hello my name is nay for short im also new to this. My bestfriend got locked up 9/2/09 & all this is kinda new to me. He called me two days in a row and he got sent to CFCF I haven't spoke to him since he got to CFCF just wondering how long will it take for him to call me again?

Hi Everyone!! My fiance is currently in Houtzdale, Pa. he saw the parole board on june 23rd and is waiting on his green sheet. We have a 2 month old boy together. He has been in the prison system since January 14, 2010. first county then state. He's finally at his home jail (Houtzdale) since last Monday. I am his co-defendent and was able to reguarly visit him every week at county and camp hill. This past thursday I drove 4 hours to visit him for the first time at Houtzdale and was denied. Apparently Camp hill doesn't look at their paperwork and never caught on that I was his co-defendent so I had been approved up until his counselor at Houtzdale caught it. I had no idea and was devistated! I am no allowed to have any contact at all, even though I am the mother of his child. No phone calls, letters, visits nothing. Now he's considering us getting married in prison and is trying to get approval from the chaplan and superintendent. He hasn't met our son yet, but when he does it's going to be his mom that takes him in there since I am not allowed. I'm waiting on someone to come out and check out our home for his home plan, but now I am wondering if that is going to hurt him as far as it being approved?? Anyway thanks for listening! I'm glad I found this site so I have other people to talk to that know what I am going through.

Hi, and welcome to PTO.
Sorry to hear of your set-backs, but they're not insurmountable.
Under the circumstances, he should write to his counselor and make the case that you should be allowed contact with him, if only for the benefit of your son. The prison can permit it, but he has to formally request it. I encourage this because you'll never get an inch towards marriage while he's incarcerated if they officially forbid him to contact you. Letters -> phone calls -> visits -> marriage ... I think this is what the chaplain will tell him.

Since he has 8 weeks in on the parole decision wait, and 12 weeks is usually the longest wait, he may be out before you get very far with all this.

Parole is going to be very wary of permitting him to live with you, because you have the common crime and you're not married. It may come down to which parole district he'll be in; some are easier than others.

My son is in Houtzdale...we live near Erie, PA. 3 1/2 hr drive. We've been there once and it was my first experience with prison visiting and it was better than I expected. Waiting now to get his sons visit approval so we can take him. Its been 3 months since he's seen his daddy. Anyone else who has someone at Houtzdale that would like to exchange info?
