Default ~June '06 Siblings Chit-Chat~

Happy June everyone !
It's been storming on and off the last couple of days and looks like it will continue for the next week anyway. My husband, who's retired, has been at his cabin in the country for the last couple of days. It's such a nice break not having to cook regular meals etc and just watch whatever I want on TV and not have to put up with crankiness- freedom!!!

Sheila-Let us know what the results are with Kaila. You all will have so much fun this year having your 9-yr old nephew around- he will keep you all on your toes that's for sure. Hope he brought his video games with him! Has he always lived in Hawaii?

Atalie- How are you getting on with your book- still writer's block?

Where can I go to ask questions about this sight. One question on my mind is, "What is the differance between a Member and a Guest?" When I first logged on to this sight if I remember corectly I had to become a member to get in and read stuff.

Stephanie, guest can read threads and posts, they cannot post in them until they become members. We get a lot of guest who just read different things for awhile and eventually become members.

Happy June to everyone! We had a thunderstorm yesterday evening, it is finally hot here, it has been close to ninety the last few days. It seems like we harldy have a spring anymore, it goes from chilly to hot.
Deb I have not written in a long time, I just can't seem to get motivated. It seems like I have to make a choice between keeping my house clean and laundry done and PTO or do something else. I guess I need to schedule better!
Sheila have fun with your nephew, when my boys were young I had a nephew who came to our house every weekend, I always enjoyed having him even though the three of them fought like they were all brothers. LOL
I will keep your sister in my thoughts and prayers.

Yikes...just found out our Homeowners insurance is going up 102%. I HATE hurricanes. Hubby and I think it's time to move to a "safer state".

Took Kaila to the docs today and found a narrow airway from the Chest X-ray so we had to have that redone today. It's been a long day at the doctor's office.

Going to the beach with the kiddos and my sister tomorrow. Can hardly wait.

Sheila- What did you have to have redone today- the xray or some kind of surgery for the narrow airway? Do they have a final diagnosis yet?
The insurance rates are high enough now so I can't imagine what you have to pay in Florida. Hope you and everyone else have a great day at the beach tomorrow- you all deserve it after such a stressful week!
Atalie- any plans for the weekend? I have grass cutting in my future-wish we didn't have such a large lot.

We took her up to All Children's which is 2 hours away for a Stress test. At the moment, they are testing for Cystic fibrosis. Her abdominal/rectal Catscan came back normal. However her sinus catscan and chest x-ray came back abnormal. So we had to redo them yesterday just to verify.

I think my brother may have been sent to prison yesterday from the county jail. No one in the family received any phone calls. Of course, there is no way for us to know. We just sit and wait.

Going to the beach today. Hopefully, the weather will be nice. We do need rain though. Have a great Friday.

Sheila I sure hope they find out what is wrong soon so she doesn't have to keep having all these tests.
Deb, I am not doing much of anything, our friends from across the road are coming up for the weekend so we will go hang out with them on Sat. but that is about it. Next weekend we are going to MD to see my grandchildren, the 10th is Logans 2nd birthday. We are also going to drive down to my sisters new house which is in VA on a river someplace! They just go weekends until they retire. Then on the 17th we go see my brother, it seems like I have not seen him in ages. We actually did not get to go in May at all what with the holiday and lockdowns.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Atalie, how many grandchildren do you have? I've heard that it's alot of fun to have grandchildren...spoil them and then send them home.

The beach was absolutely beautiful today. I could spend every day there! It's just a hassle to get there. We had a problem there. I was showering Alexis off and this man kept looking at her. I sent her into the bathroom to change and he followed her in there. How scary! I just said excuse me, can i help you? I hurried up and packed my stuff and Alexis was asking "What's a matter, mama". She's almost 4 and just super trustworthy at this age. As i was leaving, i saw him approaching another little girl who was 5 or so. So i went up to her mom and told her what was going on. Just nerve-wracking!

Sheila- That is scary- I was always worried about my son when he was little and had to use a public washroom. If his father wasn't with us and he got too old to go into the Women's Washroom with me, I would wait outside the Men's and yell through the door "I'm just outside here waiting for you!"
If you haven't heard about Matt you could check the Florida Inmate Locator(although if he was just moved it wouldn't show yet). You could also try calling the County Jail to see if they have any info.
Atalie-have you thought about what to get Logan for his 2nd Birthday yet? I am out of the loop and have no idea what 2 year olds want these days.

I got him a toy called radio phonics. you push buttons and it will sound out letters ( singing of course) and it sings the alphabet, it is really cute. I got my brother to crochet him an elephant, it just got here today, and clothes of course.

I would like to share a story with all you parents, grandparents, guardians, ect. My Psychology teacher who volunteers for the Children Advacacy Center told us this.

A few years back a little girl was abducted from a baseball tournament. They found her body couple days later and the perpatrator was found and convicted. That part was in the paper, this part was not. They found the guy by collecting all the parents camras, camcorders, ect. Anyway, during their investigation of all the pictures and film there was eight other registered sex offenders arrested for being at that tournament who had NO BUSSINESS being there. Now at all my son's T-Ball games, or when I go to the zoo, or really any kid friendly place I totally scope the place for single men who do not appear to be with anyone and have also taken their pictures. Don't be afraid to get involved. Had that situation happened to me on the beach I would have contacted the authorities.

I'm glad your brother finished the elephant in time for Logan's birthday! You will have to take a photo of Logan holding the elephant to send to your brother. I have seen the Phonics Radio advertised and it sounds like the ideal toy!

Stephanie-Contacting the authorities is always a good idea as well as making sure your children are aware of what could happen and what to do if a stranger approaches, although it's so hard when they are young.

Well another rainy day here -glad I cut the grass yesterday.

Stephanie...how scary! Kids are just so trusting at a young age.

Today i'm going to clean the house. Fun...fun! Hubby is taking our oldest to see over the Hedge.

I guess Matt is still at the County jail. He's getting nervous about the "move". I talked with him yesterday and the fear of the unknown is getting to him. Poor kid.

Well the doctor called us yesterday about Kaila's abnormal chest x-ray. They say she has a "narrow airway"...not sure what that means but we go back on Monday for another view. Her cystic fibrosis test came back Negative which is answered prayer. Woohoo!! It's hard when your children are sick...

My weekend is going great. Very relaxing and the kiddos have been well behaved which is always a plus.

Hubby and I are thinking about moving out of Florida. Just thinking about it at the moment.

How is your weekend going?

Sheila

Sheila- That is such good news that Kaila doesn't have cystic fibrosis. You must be so relieved! I wonder if the narrow airway could just be because of asthma or something similar- so many children are getting it now because of all the pollution etc. I hope you find out soon - all these tests and waiting for the results are so hard on all of you.
Not much happening at my end this weekend besides yard work- at least the rain has stopped and there's some sunshine .

I got a surprise call from my son Friday asking if i could babysit Logan on Sat while they went car shopping. So I had him from 10:30 until 6:30. He was a perfect angel, he would not take a nap though and finally fell out about quarter to five, so I know he probably did not want to sleep that night. They took us out to dinner which was very nice. They bought one of those new Chevy's that look like an old fashioned milk truck, it is so cute.

Atalie-That's a nice surprise having your grandson for a day! How is his arm now? Going out for dinner has to be my very favorite gift or thank-you or whatever!!! (After you have cooked as many meals as we have isn't that such a nice treat )
I am really curious now about this Chevy that looks like an old fashioned milk truck- can you please find out the name so I can look it up- I love all the 'retro' looking cars even though I don't drive..

I really love that car-I haven't seen it around yet-not here anyway. What color did they get?

I will have to tell my son that he was looking everywhere to find a reason for the name. They got Burgundy because that was the only one they had, the salesman said they are selling like hotcakes. I guess they will be like the PT Cruiser, very popular for a year or so.

What a neat looking truck! I love the smell of a new car. Doesn't last long when you have kids though.

Atalie, how far does your son live from you? My in-laws and parents both live in the same town. It's nice, but hard during the holidays. I feel as if we spend most of the day visiting family and hardly anytime at home. Last Christmas, the kids opened their presents and we were out visiting family all day. It wasn't very relaxing at all.

My family lives 3 hours away and we don't get there much, it just seems my husband is working or exhausted from working and we try to see my brother once a month and he is 3 hours away. At Christmas we usually go to my sisters on Christmas Eve and then spend the night with her or my son.

Atalie- I love the PT Cruiser too- I would have bought one of those if I had ever learned to drive but I always had such poor eyesight so i never learned. They are still popular here and I love the new convertible ones!
Sheila- You should start a new tradition- alternate with your families each year or go on Boxing Day to one family and/or Christmas Eve to the other. If you do eventually move to another state that will be a good enough excuse! It can really get exhausting.
