Default Intro-MissEve from New York

Hi to everyone at PTO!
I'm really happy to have found this site and to know that many others are going through similar experiences. My fiance was sentenced last week to 3 1/2 years for a crime he didn't commit (burglary in the second degree) and it's been very frustrating because before this we were the just ordinary people full of love and happiness in our lives, and nothing but love for those around us. He happened to be in bad company one night and this is really a case or 'wrong place, wrong time'...but we truly believed once the evidence was brought out in it's entirety, he would be exonerated, which is why we went to trial! We never saw this coming! Nor did we believe that the DA would flat out lie and fabricate events that never happened, not to mention that the evidence that would have proved my fiance's innocense was contaminated while in police custody AFTER his lawyer had requested it be fingerprinted. Funny how that seems to have conveniently happened!! I thought that this fact alone would be grounds for a dismisal, but the system is so unforgiving and really doesn't care. My fiance has no priors and has never done anything to hurt anyone, and is now serving a sentence that is totally unjust. To make matters worse, the guy who did the crime has given a written statement and confessed to his lawyer and the police many times over that he acted alone and that my man had nothing to do with it. When they arrested him he was walking home with nothing on him but his own personal belongings, and they still got him on accomplice liabilty for burglary in the second degree. This is considered a violent offense so he will have to do 6/7 of his time and isn't eligable for almost any programs offering early release. Sometimes I'm just so angry, and yet I know it does nothing to help the situation. Going through the whole process has somehow made me more prepared for what's to come, but nothing can truly prepare you entirely. Now my only hope is that nothing happens to him inside because he is such a beautiful and very talented person who doesn't deserve any of this. I'm sure he isn't alone in his situation, and I hate to think how many good souls are behind bars when they deserve to live their lives outside with their loved ones. I hate this system because for whatever good it does, it does equal amounts of bad, and I have seen it firsthand now. They just try and break the spirits of many good men who would otherwise have beautiful lives ahead of them, and it's unbelievable that this goes on everyday!! Anyways, that's my story and I want to thank everyone for theirs because reading them has helped me a great deal. I will go see my man for the first time tomorrow so wish me luck and thanks for listening. Peace, blessings and much love to all....
Eve

Hi Eve, Welcome to PTO. I'm so sorry for everything you and your fiance have gone through. You must feel as if this is a nighmare. I'm glad that you found PTO and joined us when you did -- some gals spend years struggling on their own until they find the support and information that PTO can offer. I hope you have a good visit tomorrow. Once things have settled down a little bit, check out some of the many Forums here. I think you'll find many that will interest you, and hopefully you'll stay in touch and let us know how you're doing. Take care, Eve. Stay strong, and have good courage, SunnyChick

Hello and welcome to PTO. I don understand where you are coming from because the same thing happen to my husband, except the person who commited the crime lied on him. I KNOW for fact that he didn't do anything. But since he was a prior offender they threw the book at him and now 9 years of his life will be gone. What a shame what our men have to go through. Stay stong and we are here for you.
