Unhappy Denied visitation because of felony conviction- NH DOC

Is there anyone out there who has been denied visitation? Here's my story. My husband is incarcerated in Concord, and has been there since June 9 of this year. I tried to get on his visit list, but I have a felony record, so got denied. My husband then appealed the decision to the Major, then the Warden. I even wrote a letter to the Warden, and he still said no. The crime I commited was 5 years ago, although the conviction was only 3 years ago. It was theft by unauthorized taking. I worked at Walmart and let my freinds go shopping for free. The Warden wrote me back saying that my marriage was not a consideration and that because of the security risk, I would not be allowed to visit. I think this is absolutly rediculous. I have been arrest free, and what possible security risk is there? I am wondering if anyone knows of what my next step could be. Does the Warden have a boss? My husband and I also have a 5 month old child together...and I think it's important to my son for him to be able to bond with my husband and I as a family unit. Please help!! I'm dying to see my husband...it's been 3 months.

Honey, the warden is the boss. It is not unusual to be denied visits if the 'visitor' has a felony conviction. It would probably be highly unusual to get visits with a felony conviction. How long is your man in for? You may just have to give this some time or talk to your PO to see if he/she can help you to get visits.

Security is what NHDOC is about. They won't risk security at the facility to let someone with a felony record in if they feel that person is a security risk.

As to not seeing your husband for three months, I feel you. However, things will be okay. There are many of us here on PTO that have waited longer to see our loved ones. Me personally - I haven't seen my husband in 6 1/2 years or even been able to hear his voice. You'll be fine. Trust me. Just breathe through it. Make your calls to your PO and see if he/she can help.

Hang in there! You're stronger than you think.
