Question Lee Adjustment Center KY

Hello,

I lived in Vermont when my husband was incarerated up in Newport Vermont. He has since been moved to Lee Adjustment Center in Beattyville KY. Is there anyone else here who has a loved one that was shipped to Kentucky? I'd love to hear from you and learn what you know about Kentucky prison

I am glad you are able to get down there and visit I know it will mean so much to him. My husband is in for another 10-22 years. I am not allowed to visit him but we write. He says they are allowed TV in their rooms, actually the have cubicals. I think there are about 100 men in his. He say most of the guards are nice, if you show them respect they will respect you. I think he said they keep all the Vermonters together. I hear that Lee is way out in the country and it is beautiful there. You have a long drive ahead of you good luck!

Well this time i have the money to fly so thats my route even though i have a fear of flying. But i will go back for christmas and i will be driving then. But thanks. Yes he has tv in his room also. And they have pool tables which is cool. And yes he is housed with Vters. So that is comforting he has friends to be with. He would rather serve his time there except that i am so far away/ but like i say whatever is the easiest on him. I will go the distance for true love. Its the phone bill thats the killer!! Vt has the pre paid debit phones and it only costs like $3 per call. with collect i pay $14.ooper 15 mint call. His first two months there i paid like 800.00 its awful. Do you still live in Vt? Need someone to talk to let me know. Its hard. How long has your hubby been in? Chris has served 12 years now. But hes a better man for it. I love him to death. Many thoughts are with you

Hey there...
I live in CT. but my cousin in the LAC is from VT .
A few weeks ago his brother, sister in law and myself flew down to see him. We landed in Lexington and drove to the LAC. It's about 80 miles from the airport.
We got a great price on airfare on Chesptickets.com only $169.00 a person (round trip) and well woth it! We had a great time visiting with him. They gave us extended hours like; Saturday and Sunday from 8:30-4. If you go.. make sure you bring $20.00 worth of ALREADY ROLLED quarters for the vending machines.Sometimes the change machine runs out and then you're stuck! Email me if you need anything...(Questions, Hotel info, Prison rules, etc).

Wink Introducing myself

I have been writing to one inmate who is now at Beattyville via the Vermont Prison System. I began corresponding shortly after he was arrested in Brattleboro, Vermont.
I have never been able to go visit him in jail and have not been to Beattyville. The input that I receive is that because it is a prison that is run "for profit" it does leave things to be "desired" on the part of prisoners. My "pen Pal" tells me the jail is really hot in the summers and corresponding cold in winter. There are numerous needs for prisoners that are not met by the regular day to day "running" of the facility, like replacing shoes when they wear out.
It would seem how a prisoner fares relates largely to how s/he "accepts" the imprisonment experience.
I am a wife, mother and grandmother and made acquaintance with my "pen pal" out of compassion for him after his arrest. (The pastor and Associate Pastor of my church in Brattleboro had visited him shortly after his arrest and asked members of our church if we would write to him: I have been doing so for 12 years now, providing contact with the world outside, being a friend and a listening ear. He was originally incarcerated in St. Albans, VT and was then "shipped out" as he is a lifer.
My husband and I do also regularly send funds to enable my pen pal to purchase needed items from the commisary there.
Presently, I am seeking input as to whether or not I can send a DVD to my friend. Our church choir, of which I am a member, just did a Christmas Concert and I know this presentation would bless my friend, who has became a Christian the day of his felony. Hopefully his fellow inmates who attend the services there would also enjoy the DVD. (I intend to call the Chaplain tomorrow and try to determine this.)
I wish I had more information to share about Beattyville. I do know recent new inmates arrivals have caused a crowding of an area that has been for participants of the Christian fellowship and Bible study program. We have prayed there would not be any conflicts as a result of those who do not appreciate a Christian environment being placed into one. (God's got a plan!)
Blessings at Christmas and in the coming year.

In order to get any church material into LAC you have to have someone from your church write the Chaplain, John Burnell, for permission to send materials in, and then all materials must be mailed directly from the church. I'm currently working on getting this done for my now husband who is in LAC and this is what the chaplain told me. OR if you want you can send it to me and I can get it to my prison ministry support group leader and he can take it into the chaplain for you (he's offered to do this with my church materials until i can get everything set up accordingly).

Hi Tessa,

My fiance is at the Lee Adjustment Center. From what I understand, it's very laid back and the guards are decent. He is serving 4 years and so far the time is going by fairly fast for him. We do speak on the phone quite a bit and it's VERY expensive. You have to set up a phone account with Correctional Billing Services. Also, we are not allowed to mail any packages to them in KY. He does have commissary every Thursday and I send money via Western Union every week. There's alot more info I can give you if you like.

Take care,

Maire

Lightbulb Sending money to loved one?

Hello gypsyhorses,
I would like to send my friend a little money at LAC so he can continue to write and enjoy the commissary for his birthday. I'm not certain how to go about it - I have all the information (address, inmate ID, etc) but I don't know if I need proper paperwork or permission. I've tried contacting via email and phone, but it seems to be going nowhere. I could really use some direction! Thanks so much,
BT in Newport

Here's some information that I believe will help from the PTO forums; Kentucky DOC - What You Need to Know and Lee Adjustment Center.
Also, here is a doc link for the; Kentucky DOC.

He was moved to kentucky this week, i have yet to know what the prison is like, but what i do know is well from the people i have talked to there, they are nice! My boyfriend was also moved to the lee adjustment center. Have you found anything out yet? So ugh.. why kentucky? That's a very long travel, and one i may not be able to make... :'(. Im a huge worry wort and worry for his safety being that far away from me..... is that bad? Thank you so much for your time i appreciate it.
