I am new to this site. Found out today that my son start serving his time this week. Have not heard yet where he is going but it is for 23 months and won't be at Maine State. This is his first incarceratiion and I have so many questions. Is there a chat or forum for parents of Maine inmates?

Hi Marie,

Your son will go to Windham for reception (30-60 days) at which point he will be classified and then either kept at Windham (minimum) or could go to Charleston (near Bangor).

You should be able to visit immediately, being that you're immediate family. Let me know if there is anything about Maine facilities that I can help you with. Also, be sure to check out the Parents of Children room (click on Prison Talk above). There are many forum rooms to visit, and the Parents room is just one of them. It's not specific to Maine, but you should be able to find great support.

Maine actually does not have parole. Probation is available but that would have been determined at sentencing.
