Default Hello everyone! Got a few questions...

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum, but not new to prison talk...

My boyfriend got locked up in a Wisconsin prison about 3 months ago and was sentenced to 3 and a half years. We are Minnesota residents, however, and the offense occured just accross the WI border. The wisconsin criminal justice system and prison system is really really messed up. I know things aren't perfect here, but people convicted in MN are treated so much more humanely. You can't believe the injustices we have suffered in Wisconsin. The specific prison he is in, Fox Lake, is about 5 and half hours away from Minneapolis. This makes it increadibly hard to see him. We are looking into somehow getting him transferred back to MN, and I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences. We would be willing to pay any transportation costs involved. So, if anyone could help me answer a few questions, that would be much appreciated. First, are interstate transfers possible? What must one do to apply for one? What are the conditions? What are the closest minimum facilites in MN to Minneapolis, and do any have a work release program? Finally, does anyone know of a wisconsin resident in the MN prison system looking to transfer back to WI? I have heard there can be "exchanges" of inmates if both inmates agree. I have posted all over the Wisconsin forum but I thought maybe you guys could help me on the other side. Going through all of this is wisconsin makes me appreciate my state so much more! Thanks neighbors!

Alison

You can get a lot of information from the Minnesota Dept. of Corrections site. It's one of the best that I've seen. My boyfriend is at Rush City and has been to quite a few facilities in MN but he has not always been treated humanely. My best to you!

Getting a interstate compact just for the reasons of being closer usualy are not concidered and emergency. Most interstate compacts are done only for the release of an inmate to a place to live. It would be up to the laws in that state. Being from GA I do not not and will not claim in anyway to know the laws of your state. You could try contacting the onbudsman in your state. You should be able to find that information on your WDC website.

Don't believe for a minute conditions in MN prisons are so much better. Even when they seem to be human to them, the guards can really be in human. They decide you are doing too good, and bring you down a few pegs, or worse. At Moose Lake anyway. Lino isn't bad, but they have bad stuff happening too.
