Default "Free Summer Camp for Children with Parents in Prison"

I know that this is a little early to think about Summer and Summer Camp, but I thought I would put this out there in case anyone could use it.

Angel Tree Camping offers camping opportunities to around 10,000 children nationwide. The program provides a week long camping experience at Christian Camps for children of inmates.

To obtain information on the program contact:

Angel Tree
P. O. Box 1550
Merrifield, VA 22116

Phone No. 1-800-55-ANGEL

or: www.angeltree.org

It may be too late for this year, but remember that Angel Tree also provides gifts to children in need at Christmas.

I would check with the Angeltree website firstoff.

I myself am off work for the next four days so I will check my original source for the information and if I find anything will post here.

Question help in raising 3 small children

That's great to know. I have a different question, I don't know if you can help me. My sister is going to be sentenced on 4/27 (no idea how long yet). My mother will be raising her 3 small children while she is away (legal custody per intervention). The "father" (they are separated right now) gives ZERO support money or emotional. Do you know of any programs or government assistance that my mother or the kids would qualify for? They live in Connecticut. Thanks- I appreciate any info you could give me.

I dont know of any government program or otherwise that offers financial assistance besides applying for welfare or foodstamps..unfortunately, we are left to worry about more than the emotional wellbeing of our kids. I would suggest you have your mother call 211 (toll freee united way info number with a plethera of info) just dial 2-1-1. Sorry I dont have any other resources for you.

Red face info

Thanks for the info. I will try the 211 info line. Also, are the kids eligible for the welfare or food stamps being in the custody of my mother (their grandmother) since they in a sense have no parental means of support? Also, is the WIC program something that could help them? I am a little ignorant when it comes to these issues, but would like to find out this info for them to help in any way I can. Thanks

Yes..sounds like she would be eligible to receive benefits for them..she may need to do some things legally..but the local welfare office can direct her..as far as WIC..get the local number from 211 I think that program is for pregnant moms and kids a certain age. Best of luck..

Wink

Thanks alot. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I will start looking into it for them. I'll let you know what I find out. Any info at all is helpful. I'm finding it so hard even on prison talk to find out any info on York Women's Prison in Connecticut on any of the forums or threads. I want to know all the details (good and bad) of life inside and what my sister will be facing from sentencing on. (Friends and family who aren't in my shoes keep telling me to stay off the computer- that I'm just beating myself up but I have this need to know that they just can't understand.) If you happen to know of anyone with a loved one there now or who has been there, please let me know.

Unhappy Angel tree for children

I tried to contact angel tree when my son's father was first incarcerated 7 years ago. The only response I received wasn't very informative. I tried to contact them afterwards but never got a response. I was really hoping that Phillip could get involved with them, but they didn't seem too enthusiastic. It's too late now, he's 17.

Default Camp in North Carolina

If any of you are near Charlotte, NC, we still have spaces in our camp for kids with incarcerated parents for August 4th -8th. The kids need to be 6-12 at the time of camp. It's an overnight camp and is free. Feel free to private message me or call me for a registration form:

This kind of info is great. As an ex-employee I don't ever recall seeing these kinds of programs posted within the facility.(There's always a few softies working that would be happy to post it up) I'm going to pass it on to some friends who work their still so they can at least post it at the checkpoint info board, and also a few copies to my loved one so he can share it with other guys. If we all try to spread programs like this and make each facility aware, we would help more families.

Just thought I would commenton this thread. There are several camps for children in Texas. My grandson was fortunate enough to be able to attend one of the camps this last summer for an entire week. They had tons of activities and he had a blast. If you have a child that could benefit you should look into these camps, They get to know other kids that are in the similiar situation.

Does anyone know how to get these programs to accept our kids when their dad isn't signing them up? My kids used to get presents and my oldest went to camp one time through Angel Tree...but the last three years their dad hasn't filled out the paperwork for theand when I call they just have told me, oh well since he's not signing them up we can't help you.
