Notice to new members intending to register - from January 9th 2012

I am from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and I think it would be fantastic if there were other women in the Windsor area (or surrounding areas), that are have boyfriend's/husbands in prison, who would be interested in meeting up some time? As the girlfriend of a man who is serving a life sentence WITH the possibility of parole, I feel very isolated and alone sometimes.

Most people do not understand, and I have to deal with their ignorance and prejudice on a regular basis.

If anyone is interested, please respond. Perhaps we can exchange email addresses or something, and see if we could arrange something? I'd love to hear from you!

We are having a Michigan get together in the Warren/Detroit area at the end of the month... You are more than welcome to come and join us!!!!

Thank you for the invitation, but unfortunately I don't think it would be possible for me to attend, since I do not drive. But I do appreciate the offer. Just out of curiousity, what do you do at these little get togethers? Just sit around and talk with one another? It would be nice to talk to people in a similar situation, whom you can feel safe and comfortable with. I have to be VERY careful when it comes to who I share things with(when it comes to my relationship) because some people can be very cruel.

As I am sure you already know.

We sit around and talk, we have mini conferences and share information we have gotten, we talk about PTO and the MI forum... but we also do some fun things and just some sharing/bonding. Many of us have made life long friends and we are like family. We continue to expand our family at each and every g2g! Everyone shares what they are comfortable with.. some lots, some little, it doesn't matter! We've also gone out for the evening, or just out to dinner or at other times just get a pizza and hang out around the pool.

We also go camping every August for a weekend and have some other fun things planned for this spring, summer and fall. Hopefully one day you can get to one of our g2g's... you'll have fun for sure!

Hi Bookworm1, I realize that you don't drive, but is getting on the tunnel bus an option for you? Because maybe me or one of the ladies attending the Warren/Detroit g2g may be able to pick you up from Downtown Detroit as they are passing through. It sure would be fun to meet another PTO'r. Think on it and let us know.

Hi all! Just wondering if there is any chance of the group deciding to take a little trip across the border to Windsor some day? There are lots of good restaurants, coffee shops, bars etc here! If so, I'd love to meet up with all of you for a bite to eat or a drink or something. Think about it. It could be lots of fun!

Absolutely!!! Sounds like a future g2g in the making!!! I haven't paid a LOT of attention yet, but do we need passports yet??? We'd have to make sure we are updated on that information.

Get with me and we'll see what we can put together... the Michigan girls are always up for a road trip... Three of us went to Nashville, Tennessee for a g2g one weekend!

I'm always up for a g2g and Windsor is just a hop skip and a jump for me. I loved the Tennesee trip and went to Canada a few years ago to go white water rafting up in Ottawa. I need to figure out the passport thing too but I'm all for a g2g!

Wow, that would be awesome! I would LOVE to have the opportunity to meet some like-minded folks. People are a bit too conservative around here for my liking, and tend to be narrow-minded.

To answer the question regarding passports. The law requiring passports for those traveling by land and sea does NOT take effect until January of 2008! I currently do not have a passport either, but I am going to apply for one in the near future. I am going to visit my boyfriend in March, and I'd like to have it by then although it won't be necessary at that time.

I have a few questions. Hope you all don't mind? Are all of you ladies involved in romantic relationships with men in prison, or are there some of you who just have pen pals in prison? And what about the age range of the group members?

As I said, my boyfriend is serving Life(with the possibility of parole) in the state of Alabama, and I am planning to visit him for the FIRST time in March. I am SO excited, but also VERY nervous! I am 24 years old(I will be 25 in April) and I am fairly new to PTO. He just turned 29 in August, and is an absolute sweetheart! I just adore him, and don't know what I'd do without him!

It would be a pleasure to meet all of you, although I must warn you that I am a bit shy when I first meet new people. Once you get to know me though, I can actually be very outgoing and talkative!

We will definitely be working on this!!!!

We are of all ages... from late teens to retirees (raising my hand) and our situations range from pen pals, parents, friends, spouses, significant others, to having an ex, but maintain a love for PTO and the friendships we have formed. One thing I have noted is that our "ages" really don't matter here. My close PTO friends are the same ages as my daughters!
