Honestly, You will be looking at a five hour drive minimum from any of the airports. If you are looking for a cheaper fare, then I would check into Denver. It's not any further away than K.C., or Omaha. Wichita might be a little closer, but consider the prices flying into Wichita. I'm not sure where you would be flying out of. Hope that helps. GOOD LUCK!

Wichita is gonna be your best bet. My son is in Norton and it takes me 4 hours which is with 3 short stops to get there driving 5 miles over the speed limit. You can rent a car from national for 19.95 a day and that includes mileage. Good luck to you. mom

Hi Laura,
Good luck with your visit to Norton. Norton is in the middle of nowhere. If you are from the LA or other big city area, prepare for a huge culture shock! Imagine the nearest Walmart being 90 miles away!

There are a few hotels in Norton. One is called The Brooks. It is overpriced & dirty. The Hillcrest looks good, but the last time I stayed there, the room was filthy. I have stayed at a little place called R&M motel. It isn't much to look at, the rooms are old, but at least they are clean, and the prices are reasonable. I have never stayed at The Haven, so can't really give you any info on it.

If you visit in late May, you should visit over Memorial weekend, as they will have a 3 day visit that weekend.

Here is a link to Norton Correctional Facility page. You might find it useful. http://www.dc.state.ks.us/ncf/standard/default.html

Let me know if I can answer any questions for you. I have been visiting Norton for a few months now.

Best of luck.

Lightbulb Another Route Offer?

What I am thinking, IMHO the easiest way to get to Norton from there, would take a commercial flight into Kansas City. Then hop a regional/commuter plane into Salina salair_dot_org is the website for Salina, It would probably be a 2 and a 1/2 to 3 hour drive into Norton. Maybe not the best option for you, however you might want to look into it, BTW they do have car rental in Salina, It is a decent size city. You can contact the Salina Airport at the above posted web address, or the USAirways Express 1-800-428-4322 or at usairways_dot_com. I will post the google map from Salina to Norton, they estimate 3hours and 12minutes. The drive is not exciting except for buffalo and other animals...Bring the caffeine!!! Anyway you do it, have a great time and be safe! You can fly into Denver and then take a flight to Hays KS and then it is about 1 1/2 drive to Norton. They have 2 flights a day out of Denver to Hays. Or if it is cheaper you can fly into Kansas City then fly to Hays. There is a rental car place, Avis, at the airport.
