Default so unsure of what to think

Hi all,
I'm new to this as of today.
My Fiance will be sentenced 4/23. We are probably looking at 1-3 years.
He has been shuffled between 3 county jails for a year now.
He is so worried because we arent married yet and he is told
I wont be able to visit him while he is temporarily at Dodge-at all.
He also hears there are a few hoops we need to jump through before
I can visit him when he lands where he is to stay for the majority
of his time.
Anyway, I look forward to getting to know the people here.

He is right and wrong. While he is in A&E at Dodge only family members may visit. No exceptions. That is usually about 60 days. Once he is staffed somewhere else, all that is necessary if for him to mail you a visitor application. You complete it and mail it back. There is no relationship requirement. Problems at this stage that could bar you from visiting are: your criminal history if you have one, if you are a victim of any of his crimes, if you are under 18. If none of these apply it should be no problem.

Found out yesterday at visiting that my fiance has put his request in for Jackson, Stanley or Chippewa. Sentencing is in 20 days! They are so far from home! I want this to all just be over!

My man was at Dodge for several months (due to overcrowding) and I visited him the week after he was there. He sent the form to me the first day he was there, I received it, filled it out and sent it back the same day. Within a week, I was approved. We are NOT married and obviously not family. The rules at Dodge have been changed for several years now -- not only family can visit. I am JUST his girlfriend and had NO problem visiting at all! I went with my former roommate, who has a child with someone that was in Dodge, and she visited him once in awhile, too. I'm not quite sure where people are getting their information, unless things have changed since 2003-2004. But you CAN go see him at Dodge, unless you were involved with his crime or have a felony of your own (then you WILL have to jump through hoops to get approved). Why did he request to be so far away from home?

When my guy was at Dodge for A&E in April of 2006 I was NOT able to see him. So, yes I guess things have changed since 2004. I called Dodge when he first arrived there to make sure the regulations were for family only as we are engaged and have a son together - and was told that it was family only and his son could visit with a member of his immediate family but I was not able to visit. If he had stayed at Dodge after A&E and transferred to general population then I would have been allowed to see him but he was transferred out to a county jail to wait for space in the institution he was assigned to. The easiest and best information would come directly from a phone call to Dodge asking direct and specific questions regarding what visiting regulations are in place today.

Ok folks.. here is the scoop:

While an inmate is in A&E at Dodge.. ONLY immediate family may visit.
IF they are staffed in general population.. THEN anyone approved on the visiting list may visit. It has been like this for as long as I can remember. If anyone has any confusion on this.. remember you can contact the DOC for clarification (just to verify where people have 'gotten their info from')... just as pandorantrix mentioned.

Well, he was sentenced on Monday. I GOT TO HUG HIM! so, now he will go to dodge i think next thursday. There really arent any places anywhere near home for him to go. I think he requested ones pretty much as close as he could. We get a contact visit at the jail this sunday before he goes. then i wont get to see him for about 2 months...or so. But it could be much worse. he should be out for good (hopefully) by on our around December 4th.
Thank you all for your replies. I have enjoyed reading them!
Later,
Abbynormal

Welcome TO THE PTO. You should be able to get a vistation form over the net. I do not know the form number for Wis. Try going to Wis. dept. of corrections and look under vistations. You should find it there. I would do it as soon as possible, Because if there anything the Mich. It will take quit some time. Good luck to you.
