Default Just One Female

Arriving at visiting right as they opened, I was cleared through stop #1 quickly and went onto stop #2. I handed over my paper and ID and then waited.

And waited.

And waited.

I could see and hear the guards in there talking. The truck stopped and one got out and came over and joined the conversations.

I waited.

They laughed and joked.

I waited.

Finally someone says, "Who is working the room? Where are they? Holler in and see what is going on."

I hear questions and reports over the walkie talkie, some clear, some jumbled. I glance around for other visitors that I know are coming. Then I hear "Just One Female".

It started me thinking. Yes, I am just one female and maybe I am not important enough for you to hustle your buns up and do the job you are paid to do. Maybe I am just one female you feel you can disregard. But let me tell you, this one female has done more to help many people in one year than they ever will. This one female has written to state legislators and wardens and taken on all kinds of people that most are afraid of. This one female will continue to raise her voice for any injustices she sees. This one female will raise her children to be productive citizens. This one female will hold it all together until the other half of her heart will come home.

We are all in this together. All of us "Just One Female".

Make your voice count

You are absolutely right! I feel the same as you, and will continue to fight for what is right! Kudos to you for standing up for what you believe in! Your other half should be proud of you! It is very discouraging to see other people sitting back, while you work hard to do the right thing! I know this, because I feel the same way! Thanks for the inspiration, and letting me know that there are other people that feel the same way that I do!!!!!!

dw I absolutely love the way you are able to put you feelings and thoughts down on paper. You are "The Female" as Daveswife said. You've helped me through this thing and I appreciate it all. I can see it now.... One of these days we are going to hear one of those CO's ask another CO..."How'd you get that black eye?....".... "Well there was this one female...." LMAO.... We will all know who it was right off. But on a more serious note, I know you would never do that. You'll just hop on that phone of yours and start your magic, as you always do for so many people. There are alot of people out here, and in there, that are so very grateful for you help. You are a definite inspiration.... especially to me. Thanks dw!

I know what you mean!!! I used to be really quiet and shy and now a lot of times if my man has a problem I have to deal with it because he obviously can't do much so I call wardens and captains and whoever and bitch at them and annoy them til they listen to me...I learned to just waltz right up to whoever like I own the place and say what I need to say with authority! My fiance mentioned it just the other day that he can't believe how brave I am now! I guess if you wanna see something good in this situation it's that it makes us stronger women!
