Holding hands depends on which COs are working. You are allowed to hug and kiss briefly at the beginning and end of each visit.

When I was at Petersburg, there were always things posted on the inmate bulletin boards about transportation to visits from different locations. There is a bus station fairly close to the prison (maybe Hopewell, but I'm not sure of that) and taxi's were a regular sight too.

You will have to walk up a short hill from a shelter in the parking lot to the visitor's entrance. Be sure to take quarters in a clear bag for the vending machines because the change machines have minds of their own. Good luck.

Here is a link, along with the Prison Talk disclaimer about ride shares and transportation to prisons, that apparently offers round trip transportation from DC to Petersburg. I have absolutely no personal knowledge about the company though (my disclaimer I guess)

Yes you can visit on consecutive days, and be sure the COs know you are from CA so if anyone has a visit cut short because of crowding, it won't be you.

Petersburg Low

Inmates get 10 visiting points a month. Weekends and holidays cost 2 points per day, weekdays one point.

On Monday, Thursday and Friday, visiting will begin at
5:00pm and end at 9:00pm. Processing will end at 8:00pm.

Visiting hours on Sunday, Saturday and federal holidays are
from 8:00am to 3:00pm.

Hi. My fiancé just arrived at fci Petersburg medium. He's entering the drug treatment program soon...and then on his way home. Does anyone know about the program? Are they really giving the year off? Thx!

I have heard that they let you know within a few weeks what you can expect. Has he already met with the psychologist and been approved, or is this just a recommendation from the judge?

No, he's already been approved. He was at gilmer. He's at Petersburg to enter the program.

I think I screwed that up. He's already met w/ psych. He was at fci gilmer for 2 months...then he had his interview and they sent him to Petersburg for the program. In terms of his time, as long as he's in the program by sept. he will get the year off, because the program is only 9 months and after its done they go 2 hw house. So, I'm trying to find out if anyone else has loved ones in or entering the program. I don't think there's a wait at Petersburg like there is up north or in md,

That would be awesome if he gets the time off. It is a difficult program, but from what I have heard, well worth the effort.

He entered the program yesterday. He said they are giving the full year off plus 9 months halfway house. So he should be home in around 200 days!

The 18 month residential life connections program (faith based) is there and the people in the program have better conditions than the rest of the general population. If he is interested, see the Chaplain. Let me know what else you want to know.
Where do inmates in the residential life connections program go? Med, Low, or camp??

Default Petersburg low/medium

My brother was just transferred from a low to Petersburg for the RDAP program. We haven't talked to him yet, but it looks like he is in the "medium"... Not sure why?!

If anyone has a family member or knowledge if life at Petersburg low or medium, please share! Living arrangements, food, a/c, work, recreation, classes, microwaves, commissary...any info!

How is the program going for him? My LO was transferred and will be starting the rdap program there too? Any information you can share would be appreciated.

I am also curious about the time frame and any information you may have. I know that sometimes it can be a long wait to get started, even on a list.

Default Info on Dr. Katherine A. Laybourn (now at Petersburg)?

My LO (who has been on insulin for oh....20 years or so) is being told by the "doctor" at Petersburg that they are going to take him off all his insulin "to see how he does".

This is after they've already reduced him from getting insulin 4x a day -as he was getting at Butner, to 2x a day. (Don't even get me started on the fact that he was moved from a medical facility to Petersburg when he really needs to be at a FMC)

I'm pretty sure this is going to be a massive failure of an experiment, assuming it doesn't kill him first. He's asked me to gather some info on this supposed doctor. He's heard she was transferred from Texas because there were malpractice suits against her there. I'm not able to find much except she supposedly graduated from a medical schoool in Texas in 1994 and she's in her 50's.

Anyone know anything about her or have experience with her from their own time inside?

You should be able to look her up on the virginia board of medicine and see what you can find. I hope you find what you are looking for.
