just released from bccc, it isn't that bad, orientation block, Memorial 2, is extremely cold to keep flu down and help out those who are dope sick. Cleaner than I thought, food is what it is, ended up in Fairmount I, food portions lot bigger and dorm very, very clean. Lots more info for those who wish, just pm.

Glad to see you made it out okay. It sounds like it wasn't as horrible as it could have been and that in itself is a good thing.

It takes 3-4 days before they can make calls out.

My husband is in Bpt. And never spoke of any rapes there. They do spend most of their time on the bunks now because of the fights. Doesn't like the food very picky.

Honey, the average height of an American man is 5'9", so he's barely under the norm. 20 is a really common age - the average prison population is 18-30.

You're thinking about movies and over-built man-monsters stalking the halls. That really is just a movie.

Don't borrow trouble. what he needs to do is not borrow, not make "friends", not gamble and just do his time.

Default It'll be OK

millie22,

How long is his sentence? As I went through the system I learned pretty quickly who you can "trust" and who you can't. If he ends up staying there, which if it's a fairly long sentence is unlikely, he'll get the hang of it. When I first went in I was very uncomfortable - things were strange and somewhat frightening. But as he gets his routine set, he'll settle in.

The biggest mistake I saw new guys making was trying to be friends with everyone. That doesn't work - many guys will use that friendship to his detriment - like continuously "borrowing" his commissary stuff. Tell him to look around for a few guys he can hang with - a small circle of friends is what he needs.

Is there scary stuff going on in prison? Yes. Lots of deals, lots of arguing (but violence, although it happens, is not the norm), gangs (pretty much under control), etc. As nimuay said, there is really very little in the way of sexual assault so I wouldn't worry about that. It's a popular media myth.

Listen - as long as he minds his own business, and doesn't appear to be sticking his nose into other people's business, he'll be OK. It's the guys with tempers and those that are overly nosy that get themselves in trouble.

Hang out here and ask questions. We are all glad to help.
