Default We're in the top ten...so sick

International: Number of executions worldwide declines ("Of all known executions that took place in 2006, 91% were carried out in six countries, China (1,010), Iran (177), Pakistan (82), Iraq (65), Sudan (65), and the United States (53)").

And now that I think of it...the Iraq executions are aided by the US too.

What I would love to feel is the freedom that is there to be offered. I just finished and turned in my research paper for my criminal law class. It was on capital punishment and is it cruel and unusal punishment which is not allowed in the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution.

The most logical way to get rid of the DP - but maybe I'm thinking too simple here - is to force the government to follow the law. The law prohibits the taking of a life. So maybe it's time to get rid of the exception "but the state can"?

Each state can abolish the death penalty or just quit using it...there are a couple of states that I don't see that happening and the #1 state with executions is Texas and I just don't see it happening there. It appears that the state government in Texas loves the control since they do it so frequently. I am almost certain that views would change should one of their loved ones be scheduled for execution. But then again I may be wrong. They would be considered hypocrits should they choose to change laws in a case like that. I for one could live with them being hypocrit if it meant no more dp.

There are many of us Texans that are against the death penalty. We are up against a very hard fight though. Of course it is disappointing that the stats the person posted I am sure Texas did the most in the US. Very sad.
