Notice to new members intending to register - from January 9th 2012

Does anyone know anything about either the Shawnee County or Sedgwick County reentry program? My son's unit team leader is reccomending he go to one of the reentry programs. He is a bit uncertain, not knowing too much about them. From what little I have been able to find, I am encouraging him to look into the program.

We are wondering where he will be housed if he is in the program. If in the Sedgwick county program, will he be incarcerated at EDCF? Where are the Shawnee County reentry program inmates housed?

I appreciate any assistance anyone can be in answering some of our questions.

I'm not sure about Sedgwick County. Shawnee County program inmates are at Lansing. From what I've heard the program really helps them with housing and good employment. They will also help family the inmate is parolling too, to be sure it will be a good and supportive environment. I think they start working with the inmate about 6 months before release, then follow the inmate for several months to be sure they stay on their feet and transition as smoothly as possible. I hope it all goes well for him.

Thank you for answering my post Terri. I think my son has decided against the reentry program. He doesn't want to go to Lansing or El Dorado. Also, I think they decided he isn't really a good fit for the program. For one thing, he isn't set to be released to either Shawnee or Sedgwick counties. He hasn't been in that long, and he does have a good home to come home to when he is released. He is going to try to make it to Wichita Work Release.
Who knows, I guess if "they" decide to put him in the program, they will release him to wherever they want.
