For those wondering I have merged Paris Hilton Threads simply because there are threads floating around in different forums. Easier to post in one section then create new threads in different forums.

Thanks

Money talks in this society! If you don't have the $$ you get lost in the cracks, I understand we all have our views on this forum but why "free Paris"??? This whole media attention is over-rated SHE is over-rated! She will come out & write a book and make more $$$, I don't feel sorry for her present situation...again only my views. Okay the Free Paris thing....I really hope it was a joke.....LMAO....and aren't we about Paris'd out....no not yet....okay then I'll add my ...lol....I went to visit my son yesterday and he has for the second time in the last couple months a staff infection on his hip....being denied medical...cuz they already gave him a round of antibiotics....so I say FREE MY SON....if we have a free get out of jail card here....

About the sherriff thing...I wouldn't hold out too much hope for a big ole reprimand...remember here in Cali....the judge, the DA, the Sherriff's Office, the Public Defenders are all county employees....

She's back in jail....whatever the alledged ploy was....it didn't work...and yeah she tried...but wouldn't you....I know I would.... ....lol.... hmmm....but I'll say it again....the letter to the governor thing asking for a pardon....now that is a ....yeah....gotta get up off the floor....ROFL...

Her people (a small platoon of lawyers and private doctors) went on her behalf to meet with (manipulate?) the sheriff's dept. and a couple of hours later she was out. When her plan (whether or not hatched by her, herself) backfired, I'm not surprised she was upset...

Michelle Rodriguez had the good fortune to be sentenced / start serving when LA County was totally overcrowded and it was a well-known policy to book-and-release anyone serving 90 days or under (the max penalty for misdemeanor "wet reckless" probation violation is 90 days). Paris has the misfortune to show up for incarceration when we're not quite so overcrowded...

"Preponderance of the evidence" as a standard in civil trials is ancient; there has (in the American system at least) always been a lesser burden of proof in civil trials than in criminal (where liberty and possibly life, as opposed to "just" money, are at stake). That works both ways; you as a plaintiff have a lower burden of proof, too (say you were hit by a car; you wouldn't have to establish the other driver's negligence "beyond a reasonable doubt," an almost impossible standard when you don't have unlimited funds for detectives, lab work, etc).

Also, there's no "guilty" in civil trials. If it goes to a jury or bench trial, there's a finding for the plaintiff or defendant, but no "guilty" or "not guilty." There's also no "plea." I'll assume you mean he settled?

Strasse,

In Michigan, Circuit Court and Family Court are one and the same. They were going after his parental rights. When he pled guilty, (that's how it was presented to me) they only made he and my daughter have a worker come into the home for a month and have a psych evaluation. (Mind you, my daughter was brought up on NO CHARGES. She wasn't home when his arm was broken. Yet, she HAD to go thru the same punishment that he did!) My point is, he was found NOT GUILTY in a criminal court. Then, was going to have to be tried for the same damn thing in a different court.

Hey, did you all see where she called Barbera Walters over the weekend and told her she is a changed person?

She had a wake up call...

Per ABC/Good Morning America, Paris's mother was being interviewed by Barbara Walters when Paris called home. When she learned her mother was talking with Barbara she asked to speak with her.

Personally, I'm glad she had a wake up call. After all, wasn't that what the Judge and the public were hoping would happen?

Same in California; Superior Courts hear both civil and criminal cases. The laws and rules applied to the different types of cases, however, are the same; preponderance of evidence (or "clear and convincing" in certain instances) in civil, "beyond all reasonable doubt" in criminal.

Again, different standard of proof, and different remedies available (criminal: jail or death penalty in addition to fines, restitution, etc.; civil, just money or equitable remedies).

Celebs should NOT be treated any different than any one else...In this case, money, nOR "who you are" should not have ANY affect on your final judgement. She is a human being, and she should serve the same amount of time, pay the same fines, and probation as the rest of us would. No exceptions should be allowed.

Default Paris your Lucky

I am just so tired of Britney, Nicole, Lindsay and Paris and all there drunk under the influence moments. These girls just party to much and they love the publicity. Paris put her self in the situation she is in by driving drunk after a night out of parting. Yes she is going to do her time. We may not all agree on the time she gets and everything that is going on with her and the judicial systems. What I do know is that she is just getting to much attention for this. All this is doing is getting her more famous for doing something wrong in the first place. God only knows how much more will it take for this girl to wake up and see the damage she is doing to herself. She does not know how lucky she is. She could have hurt herself and/or someone else for driving under the influence. I hope this girl wakes up and learns her lesson before anything worst happens to her.
Where I live there is a 24 year old girl missing and most likely she is dead. An other girl who is 20 years old who was kidnapped by her boy friend and was beaten by him and God knows what else. There are girls all over the world that are missing and there parents have no idea where they are at. I hope to God that her mother knows how lucky she is she knows where her daughter is. She may not like where her daughter is but at least she knows where she is and is alive. Paris is Lucky she is only doing 40 days and not her life.
