Well, with this new company GTL, it seems that all French people who get someone in USA couldn't get anymore phone call ?!! Why ? Because the only way that GTL propose to open an account for International phone call is to pass by Western Union and use the Quick Pay option. Now, after many checking : Western Union do not provide this option "Quick Pay" in France... The only thing you can do with Western Union in France is to send money to a "physical" person what means you can't send any money, even cash, to any society or company... So, it seems that if they don't allow French people another mean to open a phone account, pen pals couldn't call anymore in France !

Of course I don't intend to wait and see, doing nothing... I will write to FLDOC and to GTL... Now, I thought that a petition from France, to see, from Europe, if other countries should meet the same problem... Would probably be better, at least more efficient... What do you think about that ??? Thanks for your opinion and to tell if you are meeting the same problem ?

Savannah, I'm wondering if you could pay via the Western Union office I use in England. They are actually based in Ireland but there's a free phone number - 0800 833833 - that I use. I send money via Quick Pay to the USA using either my credit of debit cards. It may be worth a try.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with a phone account.
We are lucky in as much that my fiance is in PA and I am in UK and his prison use GTL, but I have a Vonage line he can prepay his call's too so do not need an account directly with GTL.
Can inmates in Florida prepay, or does it have to be collect?

FYI... Western Union do not work for prepay phone call (and so to open an phone account)... This only mean for the moment, unless they would work on another solution, like paying by visa card on Internet ? If many French people meet this problem, is : to send American money orders... Yep...

I have had people out of the country send me $$ and I do the quick collect for them...you may want to check that out.
