A lot of misinformation in this thread. I don't see where it's even a debate. All male inmates do it, either in the shower or under their blankets. The only crazies getting busted whip it out and do it in front of prison staff. Nobody gets busted for doing it in a cell with camera unless they don't have the blanket over themselves. Nobody gets busted for doing it under a blanket at night or whenever. Any guy that says he doesn't masturbate is a liar. You wear flipflops into the showers so you don't get draino babies between your toes. After a few years in prison the sound of running water turns you on.
That said there are a lot of crazies getting busted for masturbation in prisons. They don't care where or when they whip it out. Some guys use their tool to to irritate the staff. Especially in the hole guys are easy to whip it out and wave it at the guards, female guards are assured to get waved at plenty. This thread is funny, masturbation is allowed under blanket cover or in the shower. It's not allowed where other people have to see you. Pretty simple.

I tell my man to stroke the hell out that thang! He usually does it in the shower privately but my God he has been in there for 11 years now and it is seriously a necessity. I can see getting a charge if he's whipping it out at people, etc but 9 times out of 10 that is not the case with these guys. Come on, haven't they suffered enough?

I agree, as a prior employee of the DOC, it was very degrading to walk up on a cell and see that knowing they were watching you, or them standing up on their bunk doing it as they look out the door at you. I think that if it is done in private then what's the harm? We all have our needs!

masturbation in detention is essential if males (of all ages) are to exercise some control of their own tensions and frustrations. masturbation is an aid against sexual abuse of others. as a psycholoist in juvenile and adult institutions i and my team encourage regular masturbation and provide lubrications and pictorial triggers to facilitiate such activity. we have found bahaviour generally improves if masturbation is acknowledged and encouraged.

I dont see any prob with guys masturbating. my guy does it all the time. Heck I even send him pics to do it too of me of course. I asked him once when he does this when he has the other dude there. He says he just asks if he can step out for awhile and he says they give eachother privacy. I was kind of surprised he sometimes does he a few times a day lol

My man does it in the shower and at night under hes covers in private. I wouldnt expect him to do anything less. Thats just not healthy and would cause more stress on him.

I agree it is human nature, and if they are clearly in private, with no view of a female CO then of course it's ok. I think this was all brought on by men that continuously do this around female CO's. I worked in a maximum security prison and dealt with "gunners" a lot. I would see just their eyes on me through this tiny window in the bathroom, and I knew what they were doing, and it was clear they were focusing on me. Sometimes they would try to do it under their blanket when myslef or femal medical staff was around, thinking we couldn't tell. I left the cuffport open once to one cell, and noticed something weird. i turned around again and this guy had his penis hanging out of the cuff port, masterbating and looking at me! I stormed down there and when I threw the door open he had that days butterscotch pudding ALL over him because apparently it doubles as lube?? It is unfortunate that this happens so often that it starts to threaten the human RIGHTS of those men who are decent and truly not out to disrespect anyone. It's a touchy subject for females...do some CO's go overboard? Absolutely. There is always an a**hole that likes drama. It's rough because sometimes you aren't SURE if they were being malicious or not, but you can't take that chance, because if they were and you looked the other way word spreads within the pervs about who lets it happen, and then your screwed. I truly have much sympathy for those inmates who have been *humiliated* by this, when they weren't doing anything wrong at all.

I agree with you too, but with that said...I am old school and I've unfortunately had friends/famm in the system since the days before there were so many female COs around.

Staff at men's prisons were overwhelmingly male. The female COs in men's prisons of today seems to cause many problems. I think male prisons should have male staff, for the most part, AND the female prisons would be so much better off with all female staff. Wouldn't it prevent so much of the sexual abuse (even the consensual kind) that happens now between inmates and staff? I think male CO's in a female prison is even worse in some ways...but I don't like either option really.

I dunno...its probably not popular or politically correct, but that's how I feel. The prisoners have enough to deal with to try to walk that straight and narrow, having female staff (especially CO's which means day to day constant contact and authority over them) just seems to compound the issues.

But aside from that, I can't believe they're criminalizing masturbation for these guys. Yes, if it is an intentional act of aggression toward a CO but not if they're in their cell attempting to be private about it.

Some of the women do while their men are away and I'd personally prefer they'd masturbate instead of finding other ways to release.

It is a natural function and shouldn't be frowned upon, but with privacy and not subjecting your cellmate or other inmates to your alone time.

Yes I think it should be allowed. Privately in their cell. It is a normal healthy way of relieving sexual tension. Imagine how men will be if they don't release themselves. Not to be too graphic but they can get blue balls as well.

Not only do i think masturbation should be allowed' but i think that all prisons, fed and state, should allow family visits for married prisoners!
im pretty sure, that' along with some QUALITY programing would be a great incentive for many prisoners......

If you're looking at Maslow's hierarchy of needs, sex falls at the bottom of the pyramid. By that logic, depriving someone of sexual release is about as human as depriving someone of the ability to breathe, sleep, eat, or handle the necessary byproduct of eating!

As some of you guys said, it releases tension and aggression. But I strongly argue that for those of us trying to maintain relationships, this sort of "mediation" is invaluable in keeping our bond strong. To be able to reflect on the person you love in that way re-bonds you to those memories and all you have to look forward to. In a state without conjugal visits, we're already deprived the ability to have any real physical intimacy. To force being completely neutered -- it's nothing short of a draconian practice.

I think most of these guys know how to handle their business discreetly. If it's a big, obnoxious fap show, that's an entirely different discussion.

My boyfriend used to masturbate in his sleep and I'd have to wake him up because I couldn't sleep. I say its fine as long as its not disturbing anyone else. Everyone does it or has at some point, I don't think being incarcerated should take that human right away.

Its rediculous for anyone to believe that it isnt happening,,,,, cuz it is,,,,,, here is my take,, if you descreat about it,,, handle your business,,, if you are standing on your bunk and purposly doing it in front of a CO then you should get punished cuz now your being disrespectful........... but do i think it should be a crime? (only if you do the latter)
its a part of being human, they have stripped thier families away, so you expect them to do what?
