I am really really having a difficult time! My best friend, who happens to be of the opposite sex, is at NWSCF. He has been there for 5 years and the admin is [per rumor] considering sending him out of state. I don't know what i am going to do....

I'm so sorry to hear this. I can try and give you some advice, but it may be too late. He can try and get an inmate job (mopping floors, laundry etc.) and get enrolled in the high school program, computers etc., that may help keep him in state.

On the flip side, it's going to totally stink for you if he goes, but the inmates really enjoy being in KY. He will probably like it there as it's a bit more laid back. BUT, he has to be a "good boy" in KY or they will ship him out, no questions asked.

I agree with Mountain mom; and her advice that you not worry. The worst thing about leaving the state is the ride, I've heard, and the fact that for most of us - it's impossible to visit. The bus is pretty uncomfortable as they are in plastic wrist constraints attached to the inside of the bus and it's a non-stop ride.
How much longer does he have? It would have to be greater than 1 year or they won't ship him; and like mountain mom already said, the guys tend to like it there over being in state (especially if they smoke and end up in Ky where they can smoke and less expensively, too.) I have a son in KY who is doing very well; he's due to return to Vermont in May - so, if your guy ends up leaving for Ky; let me know and my son will be there to help him out.

I've been there- nothing you can do but be there for support. He's probably just as scared as you, if not worse. Be there to visit all you can for now (if yo can) and keep the letters going. I wouldn't jump to any assumptions over rumors. Usually if/when they do ship, theirs no warning- up and gone in the middle of the night- that sucks for everyone!
