Forgot to mention as well that there are also other long distance services providers that you can use to get Collect calls even if you have Bell.

Can anyone tell me if inmates in Penetang get a limited number of visits or visitors per week?

They are allowed 2 visits per week, or you cam request and book one double visit. The phones are on automatic timers during the visits and beep to let you know when you're almost out of time. The visits are supposed to be only 20 minutes, but I used to book a double visit every Saturday and was usually there visiting for about a hour, sometimes more.

My fiance's been at CNCC for about a week. He says they have been on lockdown for the last few days - in their cells for 22 hours a day, and only out for about 2 hours to shower and use the phones. Even when he's been able to call, it's short because a lot of guys are waiting for the phones.

If you want to go visit, he needs to fill out a visitor's authorization form for you. You need to book visits in advance, and you can do it by calling CNCC at 705-549-9470, extension 3124.

I'm still trying to figure a lot of this out myself, but I hope that helps. I'm going up to visit on the weekend, so I may have more info after.

Can anyone give info about clothing exchange at CNCC? How it works, if there is a form that the inmate needs to fill out, or any other details. Thanks

Turns out clothing exchange is not allowed for the part of CNCC where my boy is.

New question - for those who have been released from CNCC - I have heard that they drive you to Barrie and buy you a bus ticket to Toronto from there (if that is where you are from). Can anyone tell me if it's the Go Bus or Greyhound?

Thanks!

I am interested in info on calls (how much the collect calls cost to Toronto?), visits, canteen etc.

This is the info from the other woman's post...if you can update it for me I would sure appreciate it! Thanks

Visits:

You have to get the inmate to put you on his visiting list. Then you have to call Mon-Fri 9-4 to book an appointment. (705) 549-9470 Ext 3124. Be polite they talk to you respectfully until you don't. Mon-Fri they have visits in the evening 6-8pm. Sat-Sun all day. at certain times though. You can book a double visit but the inmate has to request it in writing and it uses both of your visits for that week. Remand inmates get 20 min and sentenced inmates get 40 but the phone will shut off and come back on at 20 min. You have to go through a metal detector and you can't bring your purse upstairs, they have lockers. You are considered an adult at 16 and you have to bring picture ID gov't issued. They still like you to bring ID for your children under 16 too just so they know who's in the building in case of emergency. They have vending machines in the lobby. Everything is under video surveillance. They also have a wheelchair for people and you will need help going up the ramp if you have to use one.

Telephones:

They allow twenty minutes for each phone call. Then it shuts off.

Canteen:

You can drop money off at the front desk. The cut off time is Thursday at 9 pm. They can use up to $60 per week. They order Sunday and get it on Friday. Everything is overpriced.

Clothing Changes:

You can exchange clothing 1 for 1. They Xray the bag, and search it for contraband, in the seams and everything. The inmate has to fill out a request. You are escorted there by a guard.

Release:

You can pick inmates up at the front of the building. Just go inside and let them know when you get there and the name of the inmate. They have to process them and give them their personals so sometimes it talkes some time. Be patient and talk respectfully to the guards, they have always been nice to me. They told me they don't want to make it harder on the families.
If the inmate doesn't have a ride they send them to Barrie to be released. They buy them a bus ticket.

Directions:

Take Hwy 400 North Extension to Hwy 93.
Follow Hwy 93 into Penetang keep going straight through Midland.
When you reach Penetang they have Angels at a stoplight.
This road is Thompson's Road and you can only go one way, to the right.
Follow Thompson's Road until you hit Robert Street and turn right again.
Be careful going around the bend in the road it is pretty sharp.
Follow Robert to the end and you will reach Fuller Ave.
Turn Left onto Fuller Ave and keep driving straight,
you will see the jail on the right hand side of the road.
If you enter the Ontario Hospital you've gone too far, that is right at the end of the road.
Don't panic they don't let dangerous patients roam around up there.
My partner was sent there about 5 days ago and I haven't heard anything from him nor has he submitted a visitor form. Is there any way I can find out what's happening? I am really worried. How do I find out if he's in the lockdown?
Also everyone hear talks about the Canteen money, but my partner has not sent a request either. does it mean that he has no money to buy personal toiletries?

I can only think of two reasons he may not be able to reach you - one is that he hasn't been able to use a phone yet (there can be lines, or if they're on lockdown, he won't be able to either), or if you have a cellphone, you may not be able to receive collect calls. If you have a cellphone, I recommend using something like TrappCall so he can call you collect. CNCC is all collect calls, they don't have phone cards there. If you don't hear from him and can't get answers from calling, you can also write to him.

As for canteen - he'll still have basic toiletries (soap, razor, etc.), but won't be able to get any extras. My guy used to buy granola bars or soup for days when he didn't want to eat whatever was served for lunch or dinner. Most guys use canteen to get things to make their stay a bit more comfortable. I think they can get magazines with canteen, too.

I hope that helps! Good luck.

I dont know if this is the spot to repy. But lets see; cncc houses both men and women (separately of course). A "range"is what is known as the unit that houses inmates. (32 people per range). And with a 30 day sentence, He would do the time there. (depending of course where he was sentenced). I am assuming he is home now unless you posted this within the last 20 days.

I hope you heard from your bo.If you still have not heard from him, you can call the jail to see if the are on lockdown. Even with lockdowns,he will get time out of the cell to shower and make phonecalls. Make sure you have a landline. you can also call the jail to book a visit and they should tell you if you have been approved. As for canteen, you can drop money off at the jail or send a money order.Good luck

Hi, As far as the clothing exchange, that is only for his personal property. If he needed you to bring , lets say, a pair of pants, he must fill out a request and wait for approval, then he can let you know when to bring them. He will not need any replacement clothes inside as he will be wearing an orange jumpsuit till he leaves. As far as time out of the cells during a lockdown, (unless it has changed). He will have about 20 min every day (if not longer) , to shower and make phone calls. There are normally 4 guys out at once and there are 3 phones.I personally never had a problem getting a phone during a lockdown. However, we never know when we will get out of the cell during a lockdown. The best bet, If you dont want to stay at home from morning till night, is for him to ask the inmate server to call you and let you know roughly when he will be able to call. Hope this helps you. Good luck

Hello I'm very new to this, my husband has been held in CNCC (Penetang) since January 6th, 2012. I've been sent in circles by court, likely because in the beginning he didn't have a lawyer, so they were friggin him around. He has written me twice, I love getting those letters! Now he will be asking if he can do the rest of his sentence at OCI in Brampton. He has (or had) a squeeky clean record. Does anyone know what the odds are that he will get to go to OCI?? He hasn't been sentenced yet as they were waiting for bail, surety etc. He hasn't even made a plea yet. I'm finding all of this very overwhelming. We've been together for 4yrs (we've known eachother for aprox 9yrs) we have a beautiful daughter that just turned 3. Also when I do write him back, what can be sent in letters and what can't?? Like if my daughter drew him a picture would the letter be sent back? Also what about photo's??

He can apply to OCI only after he is sentenced. He can request his lawyer and the judge to recommend OCI while sentencing.
He will then have to talk to the social worker inside the jail to apply to OCI. It takes 2 months to get approved and you have to waive your parole right.
