Angry MSNBC Holman Documentary

My obession with prisons started with "OZ". Little did I know that a TV show turned into me into activist. I have a very mild case of autism but with OCD element. And for some reason, I am OCD about prison.

Anyway, I was watching a documentary on Holman on MSNBC. I watch tons and tons of prison documentaries. However, I decided to research the Alabama Penal Code.

California has its owns issues but the California Penal Code is far, far better than the Alabama Penal Code. Outside of major reforms to the Three Strike Law, to the post-supervision phase of sentence, and how the state parole lifers, than California penal code is fair and equitable.

Alabama penal code is brutal by my standards. Even Texas is better than Alabama. Florida has a far better method sentencing than Alabama does.

I do not like Alabama penal code. It needs to completely rewritten

I actually saw that one! The prison wife guy "Holly Berry" looked like one of my cousins who went "missing" in Atlanta. I ended up watching the whole thing.

Do you know how many episodes at Holman they taped and if they have aired all of them yet?

Do you all realize that the crazier the reality shows make prisoner's look, the more likely they are percieved by the public to keep them confined?

I think most of us realize that. I also think that some of us that have someone in prison especially the prisons that have been featured on Lock Up feels this gives us some insight to what goes on in these places. I know this is how I feel. My fiancee is in Holman so I make sure I watch Lock Up.

I watch Lockup every weekend. Have seen most of the episodes repeatedly but still watch. I too, wish they would go to St. Clair. That is where my fiance is

What's shown on MSNBC is only the mildest of what goes on in the prison.

Bobby was the main focus in Holman. When they were filming every time something would go down he would write me & tell me all about it, it was great when I finally saw it in the tv. Though, when he smashed the cell up they left him out there to fry in the sun for so many hours because of that :-( Ladies be careful what you wish for if your man is seen in those shows he will get as much fan mail as brad Pitt.

Misty.

Powderpuff is right. What's shown on these documentaries is only what the officers and wardens want you to see. In one episode at Holman Correctional, Inmate Jimmy Bell told cameras that officers threw away his mail, thus sending him into a frenzy - which would be understandable, seeing how that may be his only contact to the outside world. There is little doubt in my mind that he was making it up. What happens is the inmates are held accountable for their actions while officers are rarely punished for their misdoings. The most disturbing part of that equation is those who should be supervising the officers - the sergeants, lieutenants, and captains - are more than willing to overlook the abuse of power. Many people, other than those who have loved ones incarcerated, take the "out-of-sight-out-of-mind" approach to prison, and all that goes on behind the gates. Prison was the sentence handed down, not the constant downgrading, and humiliating scenarios inmates can be subjected to at any time.
