Texas Gives Execution Date to Man Who Never Pulled The Trigger

Jeff Woods and the Texas "Law of Parties"

By Dee

Texas has issued a death warrent to a man who they know never killed anyone. Jeff Woods will be executed by the state of Texas on August 21, 2008. Another man, Wood's co-defendant Daniel Earl Reneau was executed in 2002 for the crime.

The website explains about other outstanding facts in this case including his rights being infringed, and his mental capacities. More information can be read here.
http://www.freewebs.com/savejeffwood/index.htm

A petition is circulating the Internet to be presented to Texas officials on his behalf, and members of his family urge everyone to sign it. The petition can be found on the website also. It currently has over 500 signatures.

Although Texas knows that Woods did not pull the trigger, did not murder anyone, he was convicted under what they call "The law of parties." A law that states you can be convicted of a crime for just being present at the crime. A law of "association." Texas is the only state with this law, and currently on Texas death row over 80 men wait their turn to die by lethal injection. Over 80 men innocent of murder.

Texas is already the "killing state" and executes more inmates than any other state in the nation. The death penalty is not reserved for heinous crimes anymore. Please help Wood's and his family by signing the petition and calling the board of parole and pardons, and also phoning or emailing the Governor of Texas and ask them to grant a commutation of sentence for Jeff Wood's, a man who never touched the murder weapon. One man has already been executed for this crime, the man who did pull the trigger.

I just signed and was #600. I pray they will do as they did in the Kenneth Foster case and commute his sentence.

From: Texas Death Penalty Abolition Movement

Dear Friends,

The Abolition Movement is asking you, begging you, to do something TODAY to save the life of Jeff Wood.

His wife, Kristin, just met with the Texas Board of Pardons and we need to get phone calls and letters to them today, as they will make a decision tomorrow.

Jeff is innocent and did not kill anyone. You can get information at www.savejeffwood.com.

Like Kenneth Foster, Jeff was convicted under the Texas Law of Parties. We saved Kenneth from the death machine last August, now we must save Jeff.

This family needs each of us to help.

THANKS!

Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles

Subject: [maustin] Board of Pardons and Paroles Decision on Jeff Wood Tomorrow by 1 PM

Kristin was told by Rissie Owens today when she met with her in Austin that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles will make their decision and announce it by tomorrow at 1 PM, that is Tuesday, August 19.

She said we need to get all letters and petition signatures into the Board before then, so if you have anything to turn in and you are not in Austin and can deliver it in person, the best thing is to fax it or send it overnight by fed-ex or some other service to the address:

Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles
General Counsel's Office
8610 Shoal Creek Boulevard
Austin, Texas 78758

Phone (512) 406-5852
Fax (512) 467-0945
