Yes you were right on it thanks!!! It was a week and he finally CALLED! Wow 2 and a half months and finally heard his voice it has been so awesome I've talked to him everyday and it feels so good! But he's being trnasferred to Salinas I hope I don't have to wait to long for a phone call when he gets there even though they are right there next to each other. He said since he left NKSP and got to CTF they haven't gave him his property yet so he can't write so I'm a little upset about that because I'm not understanding why they haven't given him anything yet and its been a week. What's the purpose of holding ALL HIS PROPERTY?

It may be due to his being transferred to SVSP. It could also be due to incompetence in R&R. Did he say WHEN he expected to be transferred?

Yup, NKSP is something else. My sister is still waiting to be approved after who knows how long.
I do also think that the mail room is very very bad. I know for a fact that my husband has received letters from me and his mom along with the money orders that we sent to him. Instead of the money being taken out of the letter and sent to accounting they forward it to him. I guess they realy dotn check the mail all the time ha!.
Lately NKSP has been something else. Starting with the mail. not being sent out. CO's not passing out mail to the inmates.
My husband has told me that mail usually is passed out in the evening around 5 or a little later. But lately when it's passed out if it's passed out to them it's in the mornng when they get back from breakfast.
His magazines are all stained which means the CO's cannot afford a $12 subscription to what ever magazine it is that they have to take the one's the inmates received.
I'll be willling to pay for one of there subscription you know.
It's just not right?
Im just a little frustrated right now? So i am venting a little. sorry!

I asked him today what exactly is going on with his property and he said that when he left NKSP to CTF the CO's said they would hold his property along with other inmates until he gets transferred to Salinas because he wont be at CTF very long no more than 2 weeks or so. He got to CTF on the 20th of March so he said he thinks he'll be going real soon to Salinas. He also said that they told him they were waiting for space at Salinas and thats why he's at CTF because it was too crowded at Salinas. Well they should either leave him where he is or he should've stayed at NKSP it's like they're playing musical prisons with him. Oh yeah and his money that he had at NKSP they told him he would have to wait to get it because he's not where he's suppose to be yet so within 30-40 days he should receive it. But hopefully sooner if he gets transferred this week. Its sad because he has nothing..none of hiss hygiene stuff he can't write because of his paper, stamps, and envelopes oare all with his property unless he asks someone for some paper which he did when he first gpt there but he doesn't like asking for anything from anyone. This will be his 3rd prison in three months by the time they finish tossing him around it'll be time for him to get out. He gets out Sept. 11, 2008

Yeah, they move them around a lot due to overcrowding. The prison will furnish him with basic hygience stuff, but he'll have to get vocal to get it I'm sure. As to the writing supplies - if he's indigent (no money on his books) he should be getting indigent mail supplies too. That's 5 mailings a week free - they give him the envlopes and paper.

Hopefully though he'll move next door real soon. I'm sorry he's having to deal with this.

Thanks...I hope he knows he can get the writting materials for free. Well he did say he wrote me a letter so maybe he knows or received it from someone else. I sent him more money since they haven't released his money from NKSP they told him everything is on hold until he gets to his final destination. I sent his money through Jpay so I know he'll get it how fast thats another story...It's not jpay its the prison that seem to want to hold on to the money. I told him to go ask them if its there since they take it off my card right away. Oh by the way I sent visiting forms to NKSP twice still no approval and I've called and get the run around and left messages at the visiting department on their machine but of course no one returned my call. Now he's sending me the third visiting form and he said to wait to he gets next door before I send it back. so where exactly should I send it so I'll know someone will get it and approval shouldn't take no more than 30 days right? And I was reading on here that people start to line up on friday night at 8 p.m. for their tickets and leave and stay overnite at a motel but when they leave they also leave a car there so they wont lose there place in line. So it's that crowded? So I will have to leave Los Angeles early friday to beat the traffic and get in line early in order to attempt to get in? I don't think I would be able to leave my car and leave with anyone because I don't know anyone. so do people just sleep in their cars instead of going to motels? Just wondering because its in the middle of no where and that seems kind of scary but if that's the case then maybe my son and I would have to do it. well thanks again in advance.

You'll need to start reading the SVSP forum and post there any questions you have about visiting, etc. As for where to send the form - wait until you know he's at SVSP and then send it there attention VISITING DEPARTMENT.

Do not send it to him because the mailrooms often mess up on forwarding them. I always send mine to the visiting department and have never had an issue.

the first time i sent the visiting forms.. i sent them directly to the visiting department and i called and they told me they never got them..

They are receiving them, they are just not processing them and this is becoming an issue that Sacramento should know about. You all might want to start emailing or call the ombudsman for NKSP and calling the PIO for NKSP. I cannot believe the number of people here who say it is taking 3 or 4 applications before they get approved.

yeah i'm seeing that sometimes it's even taking 5... my in laws sent theirs through a letter to my man and when i called to see if they recieved mine they told me they only had theirs and not mine or my sisters mind you.. we sent them in at the same time

so i just sent it through a letter.. hopefully they get it this time

Bad news - His building has been on lockdown forever!

It has been 3 months since I have seen or spoken to him! I can't wait until they are no longer on lockdown.

You can do it either way. I always send it separately to the visiting dept, but you can also put it in with a letter and the mailroom is SUPPOSED to forward the applications to the visiting.

Recently it seems sending it in a letter has been working best but who knows with NKSP...at least this way they are supposed to stamp the letter when they remove it for visiting so he will know they got it! Good luck sweetie!! = )

NKSP is getting out of control when it comes to 'lost' visitor applications. I wonder if there is an IFC at North Kern?

It would be great if the PIO was getting daily phone calls from upset people wondering about their approval. I have never in 30 years heard of people having to send 3 and 4 applications before getting approval.

I really wish I knew the answer. I only know that this is not a problem at other prisons. Some are as speedy as 2-3 weeks, some might take a couple months - but NKSP is in the range of 4-5 months and it seems that more and more often I am reading here that members never get approved the entire time their loved one is in reception at NKSP!

That's just ridiculous. One other possibility is to email the Lead Ombudsman. If everyone who is past say 60 days and who has no criminal history, would email him - maybe he'd light a fire. His name is Ken Hurdle and he's a nice guy - though busy. Anyone who needs his email address can PM me.
