I got approved yesterday and his celly called me last night to tell me, so I got to see him today! I'm so glad it didn't take another 30 days!

ok, so I resubmitted my visiting application and sent a letter to the warden appealing the original decision a few weeks ago. I called the visiting office today and got the same old "you have to wait" crap and I was kinda down about that, but then it occured to me that I should call the warden's office to check on the status of my appeal. The lady that answered the phone in the warden's office was very nice to me. She looked it up for me and told me that yes they had recieved my letter, and that it had been assigned to the Associate Warden in charge of visiting. She said that when they assigned it to the Associate Warden, they also assigned the appeal a date by which a decision is due. And for me that date is September 30th.... Sooooo.... I only have to wait two more weeks for them to make a decision!!

I'm so happy that I have a date to look forward to. For me it makes waiting easier because I know that there is an end to it...

Well ladies, wish me luck!!! I really want to go see him!!!

Are you sure they will get it? On the visiting form it says to mail it directly to the prison visiting. You did it this way and it worked out fine for you?

Yes! Just mail it to him, he will get it but I would still follow-up w/them. You never know even inmate mail will get lost sometimes.

Call records on Friday before 2pm to check his housing. That is not a surefire bet he is still there, but it gives you a better chance.

MIKESMOM58 I know how that is. I went through the same with my son last year. I got to visit on his first weekend as well. Go and enjoy. Don't forget to dress according to their code and take your $50.00. The time will fly by, you may cry when you leave him the first time but that is normal too.

Hello Ladies,

I know that this has been asked before but I am new to this next step in the processes. I was told that my husband was sent to North Kern for reception on Tuesday night. So what do I do now? I know he can only write but can I go visit him? Will he stay there or will he move somewhere else? If I can visit him what do I have to do? Can someone give me the run down on the process? I would really like to surprise him and ease his stress by starting the process before he has a chance to write. Thanks for any help.

=)

Hello and Welcome! I'll try to answer your questions the best I can.

Ok, as far as visiting is concerned, you have to wait until he sends you a signed visiting form. Then you have to send it in and wait to get approved. Unfortunately it takes like 2-3 months.

As far as writing him, if you havn't recieved a letter from him yet and don't know his housing, call 661-721-2345 & follow the prompts to inmate records and ask them for his current housing info so that you can write him. Once you get his housing I would suggest sending him a package with paper, envelopes, and stamps so he can write you.

And as for whether or not he will stay there, only time will tell. Most of the guys that go through NKSP for reception get moved to other prisons once they are done with reception. However, some do end up staying there for mainline. My man is mainlined at NKSP.

I hope I answered all your questions. If you have more don't hesitate to ask!

My fiancee has been in reception there since the beginning of July. He was told a month ago he'd be mainlined any day, but he is still there, and since his state release date is Nov. 4th it looks like he'll be staying until then, so how long he is there can have a lot to do with the length of his sentence. Also, I sent my visiting form in the first week he was there and got approved at the beginning of Sept. Good luck with everything!

You don't really need to send it priority mail w/confirmation... that being said, I've done it (but it was for my third time applying, lots of problems getting approved, etc) My mother in law mailed her application with a letter. They got it just fine. I mailed my original app. in directly to the visiting department.

If you are worried about knowing if it got there or not, send it regular and just add the delivery confirmation.

No, it takes 2-8 weeks to get approved. Just be patient.
