Hi, I am interested in talking to mothers or fathers with a daughter at Huron Valley Complex for women. I would like to know how your child has dealt with their time and issues at Huron Valley.

Hi, I don't have a daughter there but my son was there in April while it was still the acute care unit. He was there for a suicide attempt. Huron Valley is a horrible facility and a lot of the COs are not doing a very good job. I made numerous complaints and there is one CO under investigation now. If you need any help from me regarding really bad situations I will be more than happy to try and help anyone.

I know they were just finishing up construction around that time. It should have been done pretty quick, though.

My daughter may have to go to Huron Valley. I understand it is not a mental health facility anymore. She has never been in prison before. How can I find out what awaits her when she gets there? Will she get mail regularly? How is the food? Are the guards OK or not? She is being sent to prison for a embezzlement. Will she have a cell or a block? Anything you could tell a first timer and her mom would be very appreciated.

Hi Monica,

My name is Greg and as you can see my daughter just went there. I hope you can help me and I'm glad you are not there! I hope you have plans for a great future. Gods speed. I wonder every day what it is like there. I wonder if she is in any real danger. She has always been well liked. I have talked to her several times and she tells me she is alright, I can hear the guarded tone of her voice and worry. Right now she can't call me because her minutes ran out and I don't think she can yet keep an accurate account of her funds. She has been sent money but so far no one can track it? Do you get to the point you can get the info you need to buget your needs in prison? Do they take money that is owed the state for fines & cost ect? When is it taken and how much? What do prisoners do all day? Is there any where I can go to get any additional information?
Sorry for all the questions but they are real and urgent to me. I thank you for your time and again hope you are doing well.

Hello Greg, I don't know a thing about Huron Valley but I've been learning quite a bit about how money is suppose to be handled by DOC. Inmates are allowed to keep the first $50 sent to them each month. If they owe courts fees and restitution anything over the first $50 will be split 50/50 and applied to those bills. I've been told that once one of those bills is paid off the inmate is allowed to keep the half of the money that would have been applied to that bill. We haven't gotten that far yet so...

I've been using jpay.com to send money and letters. When I send money, I send a letter a few minutes later telling him how much I sent. So far each time he has recieved my letter and a statement of account with his regular mail.

jpay does have some rules I'm unhappy about. (1) - if you need to send money to two inmates you have to wait three days between transactions (2) - you can not send more than $300 in a single transaction (3) - you can not send more than $300 in a ten day period.

I had saved up enough to pay off my sons fines with an equal amount to go to restitution but was not able to send it easily. I can send it through the central receipting office but because of all the old rumors about lost money orders my son has asked me not to do that.

Hope this information is helpful to you, RA

The only way to send money to 2 different ppl thru jpay is to use 2 different credit card accts otherwise yes, you will have to wait for 3 days.

On the most part the guards at Huron Valley are ok. But there are a few on power trips and they will lie and cheat to move themselves ahead.

gregdad,

People post here using their screen names sometimes for good reason. I think what the poster maneas is that they would like to have a dialogue in this topic..

And RA...

You know you can go directly to the court and mail it to them via a money order, and they will give you a receipt showing it is paid off. Then you can take that and send it to the facility / Central accounting so they take the lien off his account.

I have a girlfriend that should have arrived on 5/21/10.
I to sit and wonder all the same questions. I got on jpay right away and sent a letter and money. Hopefully I will that it all went well.
I think she will be there at least a year and half. Maybe longer.
I await to her more about the routines and what she is up against.
But she is not a first timer to prison, Its been ten years since her last prison stay. But I do know she is in the lowest security level. I am curious about visits. She seemed to think I could visit all day, but when I read the schedule it does not seem to be that way.
Thanks in advance for any information.
