This is heart wrenching. I only hope when it's my time to face death, I can have the peace this man has.
I have a DSL connection but the video is still kind of choppy. Are others having this problem?

Unfortunately I missed it so does anyone have an audio file of the show or even part of the show? I'd really appreciate it.

For those of you who did listen what happened during the show?

Thanks

Convicted child killer set to die in Texas
By MICHAEL GRACZYK Associated Press Writer © 2008 The Associated Press
Oct. 14, 2008, 11:41AM

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — A former East Texas truck repair shop owner condemned for fatally shooting a 22-month-old boy and his parents was headed to the Texas death chamber Tuesday evening.

Alvin Kelly, 57, denied any involvement in 1984 slayings in Gregg County, about 100 miles east of Dallas, although he had confessed to a previous killing and was in prison for that conviction when he was charged in the triple murder.

Kelly would be the 10th Texas prisoner executed this year in the nation's busiest capital punishment state. He's among a dozen condemned inmates scheduled to die over the next six weeks. Another lethal injection is set for Thursday.

The U.S. Supreme Court last week refused to review his appeal. His lawyer returned to the high court with another appeal, asking for a reprieve while the justices examine a Tennessee case about whether poor death row inmates seeking clemency from state officials have a right to taxpayer-paid attorneys.

"I do not think they will grant him a stay," attorney Scott Smith said Tuesday, noting the justices have refused similar appeals in other cases.

Kelly, in an interview last week outside death row, said he didn't want a reprieve and looked forward to "go home to God."

Our family has a correspondence ministry. One of Alvin's friends, and a pen pal of mine, gave him my name several years ago and we became good friends and have corresponded with each other regularly. Your grandfather is a true Christian and a wonderful example of what being born again can mean for a person. I am sad today because I will miss him.

My email is (Please PM Member, Email address removed per PTO policy) if you care to correspond privately.

Thanks for the information, but this message was from someone in another country. I applaud those that use the shout-out show, but this felt more urgent, so the call worked out better.

Default I have just spoken to Alvin

I rang the Walls at 8.30 uk time today (2.30 pm Texas) and miraculously they let me speak to him. I was astonished at his bravery and courage. He was doing well, was totally composed and calm, and absolutely unafraid. He explained that there was nothing to be afraid of and that he knew he would be riding his Harley in heaven tonight. And he showed a lot of concern for my feelings and how I would cope with it.

What a truly amazing guy he is. I am so grateful to have had him in my life for the last 10 years.

For what i have read here it doesn't look good for Alvin.
It will be in the middle of the night over here when his execution will take place.
I know he is ready and in one way i am happy that he finally can go home cause that is what he wants for so many years now.
I feel sad and my thoughts go out to Alvin, his son and daughters and the rest of his family and friends.
Ren, we all will miss him, i know how you feel right now but keep in mind that he will go to a wonderful place were he will be happy again after so many years.
Wish i could have heard that radioshow that they made for him cause i have no idea if he got my message on the radio.

You've got plenty of time to get him a letter. The execution is not until the 14th which is almost a week away so if you send it overnight it'll get there in plenty of time.

In fact you have enough time to send 2 letters.
I'm in Illinois and there wasn't enough time to send a letter on Thursday because Monday was a holiday. I didn't want to take the chance on not fulfilling Alvin's old friend's request. It takes five business days for a letter to get to inmates in Texas from Illinois. Of course, it is longer if there is any sort of hold up at the prison where the mail is inspected and sorted. I never thought of sending an overnight letter.

As to talking with prison chaplains, I have learned there are some chaplains that welcome friends and family calls and those that do not. I got lucky in talking with the death row chaplain on duty. He knew Alvin well and was happy to pass on the message for me. But the answer to your question is yes, anyone can call the chaplain's office, but you may not get the results you are seeking, and that depends on the character of the chaplain, and the policies of the prison he works at. Does this help?

Ren

Axdungeon, I was not at all happy with my experiences of the prison chaplains at Polunsky, last week I called and the chaplain said he would arrange for me to speak to Alvin on the phone if I called at 1pm Texas time yesterday (13 October), it would be all set up. When I did so, the guy that answered (a different chaplain) said that he knew nothing about it, and that it would not be possible at all to speak to Alvin and certainly not at the Walls Unit, but that he would straight away go to the death watch house and pass the message to Alvin. He was deeply comforting and expressed sadness as he had known Alvin for a long time and had the utmost respect for him, and would miss him. I then went through to the Warden's office at Polunsky to beg for a phone call with Alvin, the warden's secretary said "I don't know who told you that but its not true, you cannot speak to him ma'am". In fact, if someone had wanted to make it happen, they could have.

Just in case, tonight, I rang the Walls and miraculously they put me through to Alvin, we were able to speak for 10 minutes, I asked him if he had received my message from the chaplain yesterday and he said no.

Alvin would not want me to be angry and upset at this so I am trying not to. I was fortunate in that I eventually got to speak to him (no thanks to the chaplain) but my concern is for others who may be deeply hurt. It's amazing that these people claim to be spiritual advisers devoted to serving others and the Lord.

Maggie, I have to agree that many chaplains are not what they should be. When I spoke to Alvin I found out that he had got the message I sent him last week, and it was the chaplain that delivered it. Alvin is ready and happy to leave this world. I had thought I would be sadder than I already was after talking to him, but surprisingly I feel happy for him. That doesn't mean I won't miss having him in my life, because I will. Alvin told me that he must have finished his tasks on earth, or the graduation day, as he calls it, wouldn't happen.

Not all chaplains are like the one you spoke to. Too many are though.
