Hi, I'm new to posting new threads and new to this prison system. My 1st time being with someone who was sent to prison.

So me and my honey have been together for a little over a year, he's been gone since Oct of 07'. He recently sent me a letter stating he's being released on February 17th of 2009 if he behaved and if he didn't behave it was going to be February 28th of 2010.

As of now he's behaving, he has his weekend work and says he's more than sure he's getting out 2-17-09....my question is....is this a legitimate date? or can there be anything else that can hold back besides not behaving....

I don't understand much of this prison vocabulary so I do apologize for those who think I'm crazy...lol

Can anyone explain what parole means? I've asked my honey thru his letters but he keeps forgetting to answer so I'm lost

Can anyone help me with how this works when and before he's being released?????

Parole means being let out BEFORE he serves out. Which means, when he was sentenced he was given X amount of time. If he paroles, meaning he will go before a board they will review his files. What classes hes took, if he has been in trouble inside, the seriousness of his offenses he initially committed, etc. They will review all that and decide whether or not to let him out before he serves out. If he is on parole he will have to see a PO (parole officer) he will have drug test, have to work, curfew and probably many other things depending on his crime.

IF he violates these conditions he will be returned to prison/jail to serve the remainder of his time and IF he gets new charges serve time on them as well. If he catches new charges he could be serious trouble especially if your state has a PFO or strike laws.

thugwife is correct, most inmates are given a ERD ( early release date) which is the first date he told you, if he gets in trouble, fights etc... he could lose it and get out on his max time

Thank you ladies.....I think I'm understanding this whole prison system.

And FYI...I have the outmost respect for all these females who have been with their husbands thru thick and thin. I know for the year that my honey has been away, it's been so hard on me, so I can imagine waiting 5 + years....
